My Hero Academia fans, we’re not done with Class 1-A’s world just yet. A new spin-off anime short titled I am a hero too is officially arriving sooner than expected, and this one puts the spotlight on Eri.
The short is part of the My Hero Academia anime’s 10th anniversary celebration and will first premiere at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles. The event runs from July 2 to July 5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, though the exact screening date and time have not been confirmed yet. According to Polygon, a dedicated My Hero Academia panel was not listed on the Anime Expo 2026 schedule at the time of publication.
After its Anime Expo debut, I am a hero too will be screened in Japan on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 as part of special “Character Matchup” theatrical showings featuring selected popular My Hero Academia episodes. Then, the short will arrive on streaming platforms on Aug. 3.
That timeline is actually pretty fast. Usually, anime event premieres can leave international fans waiting blur gila long, especially if the first showing is tied to a convention or cinema-only run. This time, fans in Malaysia and across SEA only need to dodge spoilers for about a month after Anime Expo — and just a couple of days after the Japan screenings.
Story-wise, I am a hero too takes place after the My Hero Academia series finale and follows Eri during her high school life. It is based on a one-shot manga written by creator Kohei Horikoshi for My Hero Academia: Ultra Age.
That post-finale setting is the big hook here. Eri has always been one of the emotional cores of My Hero Academia, especially after everything she went through in the Shie Hassaikai arc. Seeing her in a more normal high school environment could be a nice epilogue-style breather after the main series’ heavy endgame battles.
For Malaysian fans, this is also the kind of release that will probably hit anime group chats fast. My Hero Academia is still a huge gateway shonen title here — the type of series people followed through streaming, manga updates, cosplay, cinema screenings, and merch booths at local ACG events. Even if this short isn’t a full new season, it gives fans one more reason to return to the world after the finale.
The only catch: there is still no trailer or animation preview for I am a hero too yet. So while we now have the release window, we still don’t know how the short will look, how long it will run, or how much of Eri’s post-finale life it will actually cover.
Still, for anyone who felt belum puas after My Hero Academia wrapped up, this is a neat anniversary bonus. Anime Expo attendees get the earliest look in July, Japan gets limited theatrical screenings in early August, and everyone else can look out for the streaming release on Aug. 3.
