Naruto’s Long-Paused Anime Comeback Is Finally Getting Its First Real Look

Naruto fans, looks like the long wait is finally moving again.

After years of silence around the franchise’s planned anime return, Naruto is preparing for a major reveal at New York Comic Con 2026. The panel is officially titled “NARUTO: What’s Next?”, and it is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM EDT.

The big headline here: this is expected to give fans the first real look at the future of the Naruto anime.

Viz Media has confirmed a pretty strong guest lineup for the special stage. Studio Pierrot executive producer Tominaga Yoshihiko will be there, alongside two very familiar voices: Junko Takeuchi, the Japanese voice of Naruto Uzumaki, and Noriaki Sugiyama, the Japanese voice of Sasuke Uchiha.

The two voice actors have also appeared in a new teaser message promoting the NYCC appearance, which is basically the franchise saying: yes, pay attention this weekend.

For context, Naruto’s anime comeback has been stuck in limbo for a while. The revival was first announced around the franchise’s 20th anniversary and was described as a four-episode miniseries revisiting the earliest days of Team 7 from the original Naruto anime. It was originally planned for a 2023 release before being delayed indefinitely.

So this upcoming reveal matters because it could finally show what shape that project is in now. Is it still the same four-episode anniversary miniseries? Has it changed? Is Studio Pierrot polishing it into something bigger? The source does not confirm those answers yet, so for now, that part is still wait-and-see.

There is also another wrinkle: the event has reportedly teased a new animated film as well, but it is not yet clear whether that film and the delayed anime revival are the same project or separate announcements. That makes the NYCC panel more interesting than a simple “new trailer drop” situation.

Analysis for Malaysia/SEA readers: Naruto is one of those anime that cuts across generations here. You have older fans who grew up with the original series and younger viewers who entered through Boruto clips, games, or streaming-era anime culture. A proper anime comeback would not just be nostalgia bait; it could restart the conversation around one of shonen’s biggest names.

The other useful detail is the worldwide livestream. The source says the franchise is planning a stream so fans who are not physically at New York Comic Con can follow the reveals as they happen. That is the most relevant part for Malaysian and SEA fans: you do not need to be inside the convention hall to see what Naruto is teasing next.

Naruto has been relatively quiet on the anime front, especially with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations also on hiatus. Because of that, even a short new project could feel like a big reset moment for the franchise.

No need to overhype it yet, lah. But if this panel finally gives us proper footage, a clearer format, or confirmation of what the revival actually is, Naruto fans will have something real to chew on again.
