Netflix’s May and June 2026 Anime Slate Adds One Piece, Milky Subway and More

Netflix is not slowing down on anime in 2026. After a strong run of big-name releases and exclusives earlier in the year, the platform has now confirmed another batch of anime titles heading into the end of May and the start of June.

The update is for Netflix in the US, so Malaysian and SEA viewers should still double-check the local Netflix app when the dates arrive. But even then, this slate is worth watching because Netflix’s anime licensing moves usually hint at what could become easier to access globally later on.

What’s coming to Netflix?

According to Netflix’s latest anime update, these are the key releases listed for the May and June 2026 window:

  • May 25 — Assassination Classroom: Season 2
  • June 1 — MILKY☆SUBWAY THE GALACTIC LIMITED EXPRESS
  • June 1 — One Piece: Whole Cake Island, Episodes 850–877

Netflix’s post also highlighted several major anime names, including Blue Lock: VS. U-20 Japan, My Dress-Up Darling Season 2, Shangri-La Frontier Season 2, and Assassination Classroom Season 2.

That is a pretty solid spread, especially if you are the kind of viewer who uses Netflix as the “easy mode” anime app instead of juggling multiple streaming services. Crunchyroll and other platforms may still be where hardcore seasonal watchers live, but Netflix has one huge advantage: it is already sitting on the TV in a lot of Malaysian homes.

Why this matters for Malaysian anime fans

For SEA viewers, availability is always the annoying part. Sometimes a show trends globally, but local fans have to wait, hunt for another platform, or deal with region differences. So whenever Netflix expands its anime library, it matters because it lowers the barrier for casual fans to jump in.

Blue Lock is the obvious attention-grabber for sports anime fans, especially after the series became a major gateway title for people who usually only watch shonen battles. If VS. U-20 Japan gets wider Netflix exposure, expect more football bros to suddenly start talking about ego, strikers and “main character energy” again.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is another big one. The cosplay-romance series already has a strong fanbase among anime convention crowds, and that hits close to home for Malaysia, where events like Comic Fiesta, AniManGaki and ACG gatherings keep getting bigger. More Netflix reach means more casual viewers discovering Marin and Gojo without needing to follow seasonal release charts.

Then there is Shangri-La Frontier Season 2, which deserves more noise. The series has always felt especially fun for gamers because it treats game mechanics, skill expression and boss fights with real respect. For Malaysian players who grew up grinding MMOs, MOBAs and sweaty ranked ladders, this one lands differently. It is not just “anime about a game”; it actually understands the thrill of mastering a broken build or outplaying a ridiculous encounter.

One Piece fans get more Whole Cake Island

Netflix is also adding One Piece: Whole Cake Island episodes 850 to 877 on June 1. That arc is a major stretch of the anime, and more episodes arriving on Netflix means the platform continues to become a more practical place for newcomers trying to catch up.

Of course, catching up to One Piece is still a gila commitment. But every new chunk helps, especially for fans who started through the live-action series or only recently decided to understand why everyone keeps yelling about Luffy.

Milky Subway brings something weirder

The freshest addition here is MILKY☆SUBWAY THE GALACTIC LIMITED EXPRESS, a feature film connected to the earlier anime project of the same name. It began as an online short by creator Yohei Kameyama, who also writes, directs and handles a massive amount of the film’s production work, including character design, animation and modeling. Bit Grooove Promotion is credited for sound.

The story follows superhuman Chiharu and cyborg Makina after they are arrested for space traffic violations. Their punishment sounds simple: clean an interplanetary train called the Milky Subway. Naturally, things go sideways when the train launches into deep space with a chaotic crew onboard.

Between returning favourites and a strange sci-fi anime film, Netflix’s early summer anime push has enough variety to be worth tracking. Just remember: US confirmation does not always equal Malaysia day-and-date release, so keep an eye on your local Netflix catalogue.
