Netflix has finally put a proper window on The One Piece, the upcoming anime remake from Wit Studio — and yes, we are still quite far away. The new adaptation is now set to arrive on Netflix in February 2027.

For One Piece fans in Malaysia and across SEA, this is a pretty big update. We already have Toei Animation’s long-running anime, the live-action Netflix series, and the manga still going strong, but The One Piece is aiming to retell the earliest part of Luffy’s journey with a fresher production approach and a tighter structure.

According to Netflix’s latest reveal, season one will run for seven episodes, adding up to roughly 300 minutes of anime. That means the remake is not doing the old-school weekly anime pacing where one small moment can stretch forever. Instead, Wit Studio is covering the first 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga in one compact season.

That chapter range tells us quite a lot about what fans should expect. This first season should focus on the early East Blue material, bringing us back to the time before the Straw Hat crew became the massive found family we know today. Based on the manga coverage, characters like Tony Tony Chopper, Franky, and Brook will not be part of season one. So if your favourite is the little doctor reindeer, sorry bro, you need to wait.

The good news? Sanji should make it in, since the cook joins the story within the material season one is expected to cover. For many SEA fans who grew up watching One Piece on TV, DVDs, or later through streaming, the early crew formation is pure nostalgia territory. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji are basically the foundation of why this series became an anime giant.

The cutoff point is also interesting. Chapter 50 of the manga introduces Dracule Mihawk, the world’s strongest swordsman and a key figure in Zoro’s dream. But if the remake follows that endpoint closely, season one may stop right before the real clash between Zoro and Mihawk kicks off. That is either a smart cliffhanger or pure emotional damage, depending on how patient you are.

There is another major hook too: Nami leaves the crew with treasure around this part of the story, setting up one of the most emotional early arcs in One Piece. However, fans hoping to jump straight into Arlong Park may have to wait. If Netflix renews the remake for a second season, Arlong Park would likely become one of its biggest storylines.

The main selling point here is that Wit Studio and Netflix have said this remake will stick closer to the manga. That likely means less filler and fewer pacing issues compared to older long-running anime formats. For newer Malaysian viewers who always wanted to start One Piece but felt intimidated by the massive episode count, this could be the clean entry point.

Still, the challenge is gila huge. One Piece is enormous, and even a faster remake would need many years to catch up with the current story. But if season one lands well, Netflix may have a strong long-term anime project on its hands — especially in SEA, where One Piece already has a massive cross-generation fanbase.

For now, February 2027 is the date to keep in mind. Time to prepare the rewatch gang.
