Netflix is going big on One Piece again. Shueisha and Netflix have confirmed that The One Piece, the new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s legendary manga, will premiere worldwide on Netflix in February 2027.
For Malaysian and SEA fans, the biggest win here is simple: no guessing game over where to watch it. Since the launch is global on Netflix, this should be much easier to follow legally from day one compared to the old days of waiting for regional TV deals, delayed streaming windows, or dodgy uploads shared in group chats.
The project is being handled by WIT Studio, which immediately makes this more interesting than a basic remake announcement. WIT is best known for Spy x Family and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, so expectations will be high, especially around action direction, pacing, and how fresh the early One Piece arcs can feel with modern production.
Season 1 will cover the East Blue Saga, specifically the first 50 chapters of the manga. That means this new version is starting right at the beginning: Luffy setting out, building the early Straw Hat crew, and laying down the emotional foundation that turned One Piece into one of the biggest manga and anime franchises ever.
Netflix is also dropping all seven episodes at once. Together, the season will run for around 300 minutes, so this is basically a weekend binge for hardcore fans. Seven episodes for 50 chapters sounds fast on paper, but the longer total runtime suggests each episode may have room to breathe more than a standard weekly TV slot.
The staff list also gives Attack on Titan fans something to notice. Masashi Koizuka is directing the new adaptation, Kyoji Asano is serving as character design director, and Ryoma Kawamura is attached as animation producer. All three have experience connected to Attack on Titan, which is probably why many fans will be watching closely to see how they reinterpret Oda’s early art style and action beats.
This is not Netflix’s first swing at One Piece either. The platform already has the live-action adaptation, which has launched two seasons, and Netflix is also planning a third live-action season for 2027. So yes, 2027 is shaping up to be a very loud year for One Piece on Netflix.
For newer viewers in Malaysia who only know One Piece from memes, cosplay booths, anime conventions, or the live-action series, The One Piece could become the cleanest entry point yet. The original anime is beloved, but its episode count is frankly intimidating. A tighter remake starting from East Blue gives new fans a way in without needing to commit to a thousand-plus episode marathon.
For longtime fans, the question is different: can WIT Studio make East Blue feel exciting again without losing the charm that made the Straw Hats special? That balance will decide whether The One Piece becomes the definitive modern version or just another alternate way to experience the same story.
Either way, this is one of the biggest anime releases already locked for 2027. If Netflix sticks the landing, expect One Piece to dominate anime conversations across Malaysia, SEA, and basically every anime Discord server for weeks.
