Square Enix is adding another dark fantasy revenge story to its Gangan Online lineup, and this one sounds like proper villainess-isekai fuel.

The June issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan revealed that writer Mujirushi Shimazaki and artist Rika Kamiyoshi have started a new manga titled Yami Ochi Reijō wa Maō no Musume Alice ni Tenseishita no de Ōto de Anyaku suru Koto ni Shimashita. In English, the title roughly means The Dishonored Lady Was Reincarnated as the Demon King's Daughter Alice, So She Decided to Act Behind the Scenes in the Royal Capital.

Yes, the title is long. Very long. But if you follow modern manga and light novel trends, you already know this is basically the genre telling you exactly what dish it is serving.

The manga actually launched early on Square Enix's Gangan Online app on May 6, before the magazine announcement. The story follows Rebecca, a nobleman's daughter whose family is executed for a crime they did not commit. After being burned at the stake alongside her family, Rebecca is reborn as Alice, the daughter of the Demon King.

Instead of just living quietly in her new demon royalty life, she takes on a human appearance and heads into the royal capital. Her goal: move in the shadows and get payback on the people who betrayed her family.

For Malaysian and SEA manga fans, this is the kind of premise that sits right in the sweet spot between villainess drama, reincarnation fantasy, and revenge thriller. It is not just another cute isekai setup. The hook here is betrayal, political scheming, and a heroine who now has demon-side power backing her up. If handled well, this could appeal to readers who enjoy stories where the main character is done being nice and starts playing the court politics game properly.

Shimazaki has a few English-accessible works already, which is useful for fans here who want to check out the creator's previous material legally. Shimazaki drew Monster Tamer Girls, which ran in Manga Time Kirara Forward from 2015 to 2016 and was later published in English by Yen Press. Shimazaki also worked with Hama on The Necromancer Maid, which ran on Gangan Online from April 2019 to July 2021 and is available in English through Square Enix's Manga UP! Global service.

Manga UP! Global also carries Shimazaki and Kitora's Nina is Plotting Daddy's Death. Another Shimazaki project, Erio and Electric Doll, was a short mini-series with art by Mori Kuroi that launched on Tonari no Young Jump in 2022 and ended on January 9.

Kamiyoshi, meanwhile, previously handled the manga adaptation of Hiroyuki Kagami's I'm a High Schooler, But I Became an Owner of a Castle in Another World novels. That manga had an English release through the now-defunct Manga Planet digital platform.

No English release has been announced yet for this new manga, so SEA readers will need to wait and see whether Manga UP! Global, Square Enix, or another publisher picks it up. Considering Shimazaki's past works already have English distribution links, there is at least a decent reason to keep an eye on this one.
