Nippon Sangoku Season 2 Is Already in Production After Prime Video Breakout Run

Prime Video’s anime slate just got one more serious headline, bro: Nippon Sangoku is officially getting a second season.

After debuting in April as part of the Spring 2026 anime lineup, the series quickly became one of Prime Video’s biggest anime talking points of the year. Now, following the end of its first season, the anime’s official website has confirmed that Season 2 is already in production.

No release window has been announced yet, so don’t start booking your weekend binge slot just yet. According to the update, more details are expected either before the end of 2026 or sometime in the first half of 2027.

Why Nippon Sangoku Blew Up

While Crunchyroll continues to dominate the seasonal anime conversation, 2026 has also seen platforms like Netflix and Prime Video pushing notable anime titles of their own. Nippon Sangoku became Prime Video’s standout Spring 2026 entry, helped by early buzz from its January trailer and a strong reception once it started streaming in April.

The series is based on the manga by Ikka Matsuki, which began serialization in Shogakukan’s MangaONE magazine in 2021. The manga is still ongoing, with no ending currently announced.

The anime’s first season earned attention not just for its premise, but also for its polished animation. Based on the new announcement teaser, the sequel looks set to continue with the same level of production ambition.

What The Story Is About

Nippon Sangoku is set in a near-future version of Japan after society has fallen apart. The country no longer exists in its familiar form and has been split into three major powers, referred to as the Three Kingdoms.

At the centre of the story is Aoteru Misumi, a low-ranking official who begins as someone seemingly small in the system, but is positioned to become a major figure in history as a military strategist. His goal is massive: stop the terror caused by the Three Kingdoms and bring Japan back together as one nation.

Season 1 ended with a heavy cliffhanger, including Kau’s death and the arrest of Misumi and his allies. So yeah, Season 2 is not starting from a chill place.

Without going into spoiler territory beyond what has already been revealed, the sequel is expected to continue Misumi’s campaign to reunify a broken Japan. The first season seems to have been the setup phase; the next chapter is where the political tension, military strategy, and personal stakes should get much messier.

Why This Matters For Malaysia And SEA Anime Fans

Analysis: For Malaysia and SEA viewers who follow seasonal anime closely, this is another sign that the biggest anime conversations are no longer only happening around one platform. Crunchyroll still carries a huge chunk of the seasonal scene, but Prime Video landing a breakout like Nippon Sangoku makes the platform harder to ignore for anime fans tracking what’s hot each quarter.

It also helps that the series sits in a lane that tends to click with fans who enjoy political conflict, war strategy, post-collapse settings, and historical-style power struggles. If you’re the type who likes anime where the battlefield is just as much about brains as brute force, this sequel announcement is worth keeping on your radar.

For now, the main thing to know is simple: Nippon Sangoku Season 2 is happening, it is already in production, but we are still waiting for a proper release window.
