Who are ONE OR EIGHT?

ONE OR EIGHT consists of MIZUKI, NEO, REIA, RYOTA, SOUMA, TAKERU, TSUBASA, and YUGA. The group name comes from the Japanese phrase “ichi ka bachi ka,” which carries an all-or-nothing, take-the-risk meaning. Their tagline, “BET ON YOURSELF,” matches that same energy — basically, go all in or don’t bother.

Since debuting in August 2024, the group has been building momentum beyond Japan. Their track “TOKYO DRIFT” reportedly sparked over 200,000 TikTok user-generated posts and passed 300 million views. It also entered the Mediabase Top 40 and set a record for the most chart entries by a Japanese boy group.

They have also been recognised as one of Nikkei Entertainment!’s 100 New Leading Artists, won the Upcoming Dance & Vocal Group award at MTV VMAJ 2025 in Japan, and were named New Artist of the Year at the 2025 Music Awards organised by China’s NetEase.

On the production side, ONE OR EIGHT have worked with international names including Ryan Tedder, David Stewart, and Big Sean, which shows the group is clearly aiming beyond a Japan-only lane.

Why SEA fans should watch this

Analysis/inference: For Malaysia-based J-pop and ACG fans, this is worth tracking even without a Malaysia date because it shows another Japanese act treating Southeast Asia as part of its live strategy, not just an afterthought. Singapore, Manila, and Bangkok are becoming regular stops for anime-adjacent music and Japanese pop culture events, and ONE OR EIGHT joining that circuit adds more fuel to the region’s live entertainment momentum.

Before the showcase run, the group will release their first EP, “EN-GiNE,” on September 16, 2026. The title combines “EN” (縁), meaning connection or fate, with “GENE,” representing a new driving force created through the group’s bonds with each other and their fans.

Their recent single “INVINCIBLE”, following “YANKEE SQUAT,” is dedicated to their fans, known as 1DERZ, and focuses on trust, gratitude, and connection.

The Asia showcase is organised by SOZO, the company behind Anime Festival Asia (AFA) and past live entertainment projects involving Japanese artists including Ado, Eve, RADWIMPS, YOASOBI, and Yuuri.
