One Piece Chapter 1197 spoilers put Sanji’s biggest upgrade behind a personal breakthrough

Sanji’s next breakthrough might be about more than hitting harder. According to spoilers reported by Dexerto, One Piece Chapter 1197 connects his battle against Killingham to something he has struggled with for years: treating his own life as worth protecting.

The reported chapter title, “Love is Defense,” makes that connection clear. This is a Sanji-focused fight, but the emotional stakes are just as important as the new flames and Haki.

Spoiler warning: The details below come from Dexerto’s account of Chapter 1197 spoilers, ahead of the chapter’s stated release.

When does One Piece Chapter 1197 release?

Dexerto lists the release for Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 7am PT, and says the latest chapter will be available to read free on Manga Plus.

The report also states that there is no break the following week, with the manga expected to maintain its regular release schedule.

Sanji finally confronts why he keeps sacrificing himself

Chapter 1196 brought back advice from Ivankov during Sanji’s time in the Kamabokko Kingdom: caring for others cannot come at the expense of caring for himself.

According to the new spoiler account, Chapter 1197 develops that idea through Sanji’s memories. Judge, Zeff and past opponents appear as he reflects on everything his body has endured.

The central revelation concerns his childhood. Sanji’s rejection of his siblings’ bodies became entangled with resentment towards his own. Rather than simply accepting injury as a necessary risk, he has repeatedly treated himself as expendable.

This time, he recognises that protecting his body is part of protecting the people who depend on him.

Killingham forces a new defensive breakthrough

That change in mindset arrives during a difficult fight. The spoilers describe Sanji realising that his existing Armament Haki cannot provide the defence he needs against Killingham, who is described as immortal.

After taking a succession of kicks, Killingham uses Omen to cover himself in black armour. Dexerto’s account says this protection requires Conqueror’s Haki to break.

Sanji then produces flames resembling Ifrit Jambe, although their aura appears more fluid. When he intercepts Killingham’s attack, the tip of Longinus breaks, while the collision sends Sanji flying.

Inspecting those flames, Sanji concludes that his Armament Haki has advanced. The report describes him experiencing no pain and gaining a dramatically stronger ability to withstand attacks. It also raises the possibility that the flames could shatter bullets, rather than presenting that as an established feat.

Luffy’s shield gets his moment

The reported turning point is Sanji defining his role alongside Zoro: if Zoro serves as Luffy’s sword, Sanji will be his shield.

Black lightning then appears around Sanji, which Dexerto interprets as the awakening of his Conqueror’s Haki. His finishing attack combines that power with his flames, breaking Longinus’ shaft and Killingham’s helmet. The final panel reportedly shows Killingham coughing up blood—not a confirmed defeat.

Why it matters: our take

For Malaysia and SEA readers following this storyline, the useful distinction is reported power-up versus confirmed outcome. These spoilers suggest a major change for Sanji, but they do not establish that Killingham has lost or that the Holy Knights’ presence on Elbaf is over.

Our read: the stronger narrative hook is Sanji abandoning the idea that loyalty requires self-destruction. If the published chapter follows this account, his defensive upgrade gives that emotional development a tangible role in battle.
