Orbitals Brings Retro Anime Co-Op Action to Nintendo Switch 2

Shapefarm has pulled back the curtain on Orbitals, its upcoming two-player co-op game for Nintendo Switch 2, and this one should be on the radar for anime fans who like their games stylish, loud, and built for couch chaos.

The Tokyo-based studio released a new gameplay reveal trailer with commentary from creative director Marcos Ramos and game director Jakob Lundgren. Instead of just dropping a flashy montage, the trailer walks viewers through gameplay footage, with the directors explaining what is happening on-screen. There is also a segment where they play through an area together, which gives a clearer idea of how the co-op flow actually works.

Orbitals is set to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 this summer.

The game leans into a retro anime-inspired sci-fi vibe, with players controlling Maki and Omura as they defend their homeworld from a supernatural space storm. That setup already sounds very Saturday-morning-anime-meets-arcade-action, but the more interesting part is how the characters interact with the environment.

The trailer highlights several tools players can use. The Scraphook lets players grab platforms, the Liquid Launcher fires water, and the Beam Cannon brings high-heat firepower into the mix. On paper, that sounds like Orbitals is not just asking players to mash attacks, but to coordinate movement, puzzle-solving, and combat tools together.

For Malaysian and SEA players, the big selling point here is the co-op setup. Orbitals supports split-screen local co-op, which is still a very underrated feature in 2026. Whether it is siblings sharing a TV at home, friends bringing a Switch 2 to a condo hangout, or someone setting up a small gaming corner at a local event, local multiplayer still hits different compared to purely online matchmaking.

Even better, the game supports GameShare. That means one player who owns Orbitals can share the game with another person and play together either locally or online. If this works smoothly, it could make the game much easier to recommend in Malaysia, where not every friend in the squad is going to buy every new Switch 2 release on day one. One copy being enough to get a second player involved is a practical win.

There is still a lot we do not know yet, including pricing, regional availability, and whether the game will get a strong push on local storefronts. Malaysian players should probably wait for Nintendo eShop and local retailer details before planning a purchase. But as an early look, Orbitals has a clear hook: anime-style sci-fi action, two-character teamwork, and co-op features that actually fit how people in SEA play together.

If Shapefarm can nail the feel of switching tools, navigating stages, and keeping both players meaningfully involved, Orbitals could become one of the more interesting early co-op picks for Switch 2 owners.
