Perfect Addiction BL Light Anime Locks July Premiere, Main Cast Revealed

Kaoruko Miyama's Perfect Addiction is officially moving from manga page to screen, with its upcoming boys-love light anime now confirmed for a July debut on Japan's tvk channel.

The anime's newly launched official website revealed the key visual, main voice cast, and core production team. Leading the cast are Yōhei Azakami as Akihito Kuji and Sōma Saitō as Sae Takatsuki.

For BL fans in Malaysia and SEA, this one is worth keeping on the radar — not just because of the title itself, but because it is part of a newer production model that could mean more niche manga getting animated faster.

What is Perfect Addiction about?

Perfect Addiction follows Akihito, a university student who is very confident about looks, attraction, and casual romance. The one person he cannot stand is Sae, a good-looking but distant guy who keeps pulling attention without even trying.

Things get messy after Akihito is rejected at a mixer by someone interested in Sae instead. His frustration leads him to discover Sae's private side, and the two end up developing a complicated, intense relationship that pushes both of them emotionally and romantically.

Basically, expect a mature BL romance with plenty of tension, ego clashes, and messy desire — not exactly a soft wholesome school crush story, bro.

Cast and staff

The anime is directed by Akashi Uozumi at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio. Izumi Tezuka, known for I Want to Live a Long Life to Dote on My Favorite Stepbrother, is handling the series scripts.

The sound direction is by Yayoi Tateishi, whose credits include Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! and The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer. Music is composed by Midori Narikiyo, while Kazuya Takahashi is serving as production supervisor.

Why this matters for anime fans here

The interesting part is the format. Perfect Addiction is being produced as a “light anime,” a newer approach pushed by Dai Nippon Printing that aims to make animation with lower costs and quicker turnaround compared to traditional anime production.

That matters because BL, josei, web manga, and other more targeted genres do not always get full-scale anime adaptations. If this model works, fans in Malaysia and SEA could see more smaller-but-popular titles getting screen versions instead of being stuck as manga-only recommendations on TikTok and BookTok.

Of course, there is one big question for us: streaming availability. The announcement confirms the tvk broadcast in Japan, but there is no SEA streaming platform listed yet. So for Malaysian viewers, we are still waiting to see whether it lands on the usual anime platforms later.

Part of the BALLOON label

Perfect Addiction is the second project from BALLOON, a boys-love label launched by IMAGICA Infos, Dai Nippon Printing, CYBIRD, and BLUE RIGHTS.

The label's first project was the light anime adaptation of Tenma Asahi's Saioshi no Gikei o Mederu Tame, Nagaikishimasu! (In Order to Love My Most Beloved Brother-In-Law, I'll Live a Long Life!), which premiered on January 3.

BALLOON is aiming to release four new titles in Japan's 2026 fiscal year, with a longer-term target of building a pipeline that can produce 10 or more projects a year by 2028. If they can keep quality decent, that is a pretty big play for BL anime output.

The original Perfect Addiction manga launched in Kaiohsha's Gush online magazine in April 2022. Its fourth volume was published on March 10, and the series has passed 1.5 million copies in circulation, including digital sales.

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga in English and will release the second compiled volume on July 21.
