Pokémon Winds and Waves Main Theme Gets NHK Symphony Orchestra Treatment

Pokémon’s next big generation is already sounding expensive — in the best way.

The Pokémon franchise has revealed that it teamed up with the NHK Symphony Orchestra to record the main theme for the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves games. Alongside the announcement, Pokémon also released a roughly four-minute video showing the orchestra performing the opening theme, mixed with footage from the new games and behind-the-scenes moments from the recording session.

For fans who usually focus on starters, regions, battle systems, and whatever new gimmick Game Freak is cooking, this is a nice reminder that Pokémon music is part of the magic too. From the first time you step into a new route to the big emotional champion battle, the soundtrack is what makes the adventure stick in your brain years later.

Why this matters for SEA fans

For Malaysian and SEA Pokémon fans, this is one of those small-but-important hype checkpoints. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves were first announced during the Pokémon Presents livestream on February 27, Pokémon Day, and they are set to be the 10th generation of the mainline Pokémon game franchise.

That is a huge milestone. Gen 10 is not just another pair of games — it is the next full era of Pokémon, arriving after decades of handheld and console evolution. The fact that the main theme is getting an orchestral recording from the NHK Symphony Orchestra suggests The Pokémon Company wants this generation to feel grand from the start.

Of course, the biggest practical detail for local players is the platform: both Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are planned for Nintendo Switch 2, with a worldwide launch scheduled for 2027. That means Malaysian fans will be watching not only the game news, but also Switch 2 availability, regional pricing, import options, and whether local retailers can keep stock stable when the Pokémon wave hits.

If you are the type who buys Pokémon on day one, this is basically your early warning: 2027 could be an expensive year. New console, new generation, possibly two versions if you are that collector friend in the group chat — memang sakit wallet.

More atmosphere than info dump

The video itself is not positioned as a major gameplay breakdown. Instead, it gives fans a mood piece: orchestra performance, development-flavoured behind-the-scenes shots, and clips from the upcoming titles. That is smart marketing. Rather than dumping mechanics too early, Pokémon is building the emotional identity of Winds and Waves first.

The names alone already carry a very elemental, nature-driven vibe, and pairing that with a live orchestra gives the games a more cinematic feel. We still need proper details on the region, starters, battle features, and what makes Gen 10 different, but this music preview is a clean first step.

For now, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves remain locked for a worldwide Nintendo Switch 2 release in 2027. The orchestra tease will not answer every question fans have, but it does make one thing clear: Pokémon wants Gen 10 to arrive with scale.
