Nintendo is already setting the mood for Pokémon Winds and Waves, even though the next mainline Pokémon game is still not expected until 2027.
Game Freak and Nintendo have released a new behind-the-scenes video focused on the game’s main theme, giving fans an early listen to part of the soundtrack. No official track title was revealed beyond it being described as the main theme, but the clip does confirm one very cool detail: the piece is performed by the Tokyo NHK Symphony Orchestra.
For longtime Pokémon fans, this is the kind of reveal that hits differently. We usually talk about starters, regions, battle systems, and which old Pokémon are coming back first. But music is a massive part of why Pokémon memories stick. Ask anyone who grew up with the series — route themes, town music, rival battle tracks, all of that stays in your brain for years. So hearing the next generation’s main theme this early is a proper vibe check.
The video itself is more performance-focused than trailer-focused. It shows the orchestra recording the track, with shots of the musicians carrying the theme live. There are also small visual nods to Pokémon, including plushies of familiar characters such as Pikachu, who already appeared in the first reveal trailer for Winds and Waves. In between the studio footage, Nintendo also slips in brief looks at locations from the game, though this is not a big gameplay blowout.
Still, for Malaysian and SEA fans waiting on the Switch 2 era of Pokémon, this matters. Pokémon games are always huge here, from schoolyard trading days to Switch meetups, TCG nights, and local collectors hunting merch at events. A new mainline entry on new hardware means the hype cycle is slowly starting, and music previews like this are Nintendo’s way of warming everyone up before the bigger info drops arrive.
This is only the second major update for Pokémon Winds and Waves so far. The game was first announced in February 2026 during the 30th anniversary Pokémon Presents showcase. That reveal included an early look at gameplay, returning Pokémon, trainer avatar designs, and the three new starters: Pombon as the Fire-type, Browt as the Grass-type, and Gecqua as the Water-type.
At this stage, Nintendo is clearly keeping the bigger gameplay details locked down. We still do not know the full region concept, major mechanics, villain team, gym or league structure, or how much the Switch 2 hardware will change the Pokémon formula. But the orchestra preview suggests Game Freak wants this entry to feel grand from the start.
For SEA players, the big question will be how the Switch 2 rollout lines up with the game’s 2027 launch. Pokémon is the kind of title that can push a lot of people to upgrade consoles, especially if Winds and Waves becomes the first truly major mainline Pokémon game built around Nintendo’s new hardware.
A full soundtrack release is expected to arrive around the game’s launch year, so fans who enjoy Pokémon music will likely get the complete version of the main theme in 2027. For now, this behind-the-scenes clip is a small but tasty preview of the next Pokémon journey.
