Pokemon x Uniqlo’s Next 30th Anniversary Drop Goes Full Game Boy Nostalgia

Pokemon fans who grew up with the original Game Boy era, this one is dangerously easy to want.

Uniqlo is preparing another round of Pokemon 30th anniversary UT shirts, and this new batch leans hard into the classic Pokemon Red-style look. Instead of modern key art or bright anime visuals, the collection uses greyscale sprite artwork inspired by the earliest Pokemon games. Very clean, very nostalgic, and honestly the kind of design that works even if you do not want to look like you are wearing loud merch.

According to Siliconera, this is not the same Pokemon Uniqlo collection that launched in Japan in March 2026 and is heading to the US and Canada in June 2026. This is an extra wave with four unisex adult designs and four unisex kids designs. The shirts are planned for Japan in late July 2026, with a worldwide release expected sometime after.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, the main thing to watch is whether Uniqlo Malaysia gets this UT drop close to the wider global rollout. Pokemon UT collections usually move fast here because they sit in that perfect sweet spot: wearable enough for normal mall fits, nerdy enough for fans, and still cheaper than importing official merch from Japan.

The adult shirts will come in XS to 4XL, though anyone buying from Japan should be careful with sizing because Japanese Uniqlo measurements can fit differently from US or local expectations. The adult tees are priced at ¥1,990 each, which is roughly around RM55-RM60 before any local pricing changes.

Design-wise, the simplest shirt is based on Pokemon Red, with the logo, a trainer, and Charmander on the front. The other adult tees add more playful details. One design includes gym badges on the sleeve alongside evolved Pokemon such as Onix, Starmie, Raichu, Vileplume, Weezing, Alakazam, Arcanine, and Rhydon. Another focuses on Mewtwo, with Mew appearing on the lower back area. The most fun one might be the Pikachu pocket tee, where pulling down the pocket reveals Raichu. That is the kind of small gimmick Uniqlo does well when the collab is not just a basic logo slap.

The kids collection covers sizes meant for children from around ages 6-7 up to 14. These will cost ¥990 each, which converts to roughly RM27-RM30. Some designs overlap with the adult lineup, but the kids side also gets unique artwork. Siliconera mentions Gengar, Pikachu, and a design featuring Magikarp, Psyduck, Snorlax, Pikachu, Eevee, and Dragonite as exclusive to the kids range. The kids Pikachu shirt also has extra detailing, with Pikachu on the back and more icons around the front pocket.

This drop feels built for fans who want Pokemon merch that is low-key but still instantly recognisable if you know the games. The greyscale sprite style is a smart choice because it taps into the old-school Game Boy memory without making the shirts look too childish.

If this hits Malaysia, expect the Pikachu pocket tee and anything involving Mewtwo or Gengar to disappear first. Bro, those are the safe bets.
