Pragmata Guide: How To Repel LunaDigger For Courage In Desperation

Capcom’s Pragmata has the kind of achievement that sounds simple on paper, then suddenly turns into a full-on stress test once a giant robotic sandworm starts hunting you down. The Courage in Desperation achievement is tied to the LunaDigger, the massive Bot that stalks players through the fourth sector, Lunum Mines.

The good news: you do not need to nail this on your first visit. Even though beating the LunaDigger is required for story progression, you can return to Lunum Mines later and clean up the achievement. So if you rushed through earlier just trying not to get folded, relax bro — the window is not gone.

Where to trigger the achievement

There are three locations in Lunum Mines where the LunaDigger encounter can count for Courage in Desperation:

  • Mine Entrance
  • Block Information
  • Main Excavation Site

For most players, Block Information or the Main Excavation Site will be the better choice. These spaces give you more room to move, more chances to grab weapons and gadgets, and — very importantly — access to hackable mines that can help turn the fight in your favour.

That matters a lot if you are playing on console from your sofa setup or grinding on Steam after work, because this is not the kind of fight where you want to be trapped in a cramped corner with no tools. SEA players know the pain: one bad camera angle, one mistimed dodge, then habis.

How to bait the LunaDigger

The LunaDigger does not just pop up anywhere. It appears in wider areas with solid ground, which the game warns you about when you first explore the sector. To pull it out, you need to either step onto the ground yourself or deploy a Decoy Generator.

Watch for rumbling patches of earth. That is your warning that the LunaDigger is about to launch itself at the target. If you are using yourself as bait, be ready to move fast. If you are using a decoy, use that opening to reposition and prepare your hack.

Aim for the mouth

The LunaDigger’s weak point is its mouth, but hitting it is easier said than done because the Bot moves quickly. Your best chance comes when you force it to stop and open up.

This is where Diana’s hacking kit becomes super important. Bring strong weapons, but do not ignore special yellow nodes. Decode helps boost damage against hacked targets, Expose can make your next hack deal critical damage and improve stagger potential, while Freeze is easily one of the most valuable options because it can briefly lock enemies in place.

When hacking, try to route through as many Open blue nodes and special yellow nodes as possible. Passing through nodes of the same type strengthens their effects, and clean hacks also build Diana’s hacking gauge and protocol ability.

If the fight starts going sideways, protocol can save you. It can open up, immobilise, and damage the LunaDigger at the same time, making it a proper emergency button when the robotic worm starts getting too aggressive.

Bring burst damage, but do not waste downtime

Once the LunaDigger is stunned or frozen, unload into its mouth. Attack Units like Homing Missiles, Charge Piercer, and Photon Laser can deal big burst damage, but their reloads are long, so keep firing your primary weapon in between. Do not stand around waiting for the flashy tools to come back online.

The annoying part is that the LunaDigger does not show a health bar. That can make the fight feel like you are doing nothing, especially during longer attempts. Stick with it. Play hit-and-run, use the manmade platforms for safety when the arena gets messy, and keep taking small windows to either hack or shoot.

Eventually, if you have dealt enough damage, the LunaDigger will let out a huge screech and retreat underground. Once that happens, the area is safe to explore without the constant threat of being grabbed by a giant machine worm.

Pragmata is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled to launch on April 24.
