Netflix has finally locked in the return date for one of its biggest classic anime revivals: Ranma 1/2 Season 3 will premiere on October 3.
For fans in Malaysia and across SEA, this is a nice one to mark on the Fall 2026 anime calendar. No need to hunt around random platforms or wait for unclear licensing updates — the reboot is continuing on Netflix, which makes it way easier for local viewers to keep up legally and cleanly.
The new season continues the modern reboot of Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2, produced by MAPPA. The series is part of the wider wave of classic Takahashi titles getting fresh anime treatment, following the likes of Urusei Yatsura. This reboot also ties into Shogakukan’s 100th anniversary celebration, giving a legendary manga-era property a proper modern glow-up.
According to the update, Season 3 is expected to arrive as part of the Fall 2026 anime season and will likely follow the same weekly release style as the first two seasons. That is honestly the better format for a show like this — Ranma 1/2 works best when the chaos has time to breathe week by week, especially with all the rivalry, martial arts nonsense, and romance drama flying around.
The main creative team from the earlier seasons is also returning. Konosuka Uda is back as director for MAPPA, with Kimiko Ueno handling scripts and Hiromi Taniguchi on character designs. Chief animation director duties are credited to Yoshiko Saito, Kosuka Kawamura, Riko Kaneda, and Haruki Miura.
There are also new voice cast additions for Season 3. Masako Nozawa joins as Grand Master, while Jun Fukuyama voices Sentaro Daimonji and Minami Tanaka plays Tsubasa Kurenai. Two more big names, Mayumi Tanaka and Saori Hayami, are also joining in roles that have not been revealed yet. Their characters reportedly appear in the latest promotional poster, but the anime is keeping their identities under wraps for now.
What makes this reboot work is that it is not just nostalgia bait. Sure, older anime fans will remember Ranma 1/2 as one of those late ’80s and early ’90s classics that helped define anime comedy and martial arts chaos. But MAPPA’s version gives it enough energy and polish for newer viewers who did not grow up with the original.
That matters for SEA fans too. A lot of Malaysian anime viewers are discovering older titles through streaming instead of TV reruns or DVD/VCD culture, so a clean Netflix reboot gives Ranma 1/2 a second life with a totally different generation. The slapstick, cursed transformations, awkward romance, and ridiculous fight setups still feel very anime-core in the best way.
Season 3 also looks set to push the rivalry between Ranma and Ryoga harder, with the promotional material putting their clash front and centre. If you are not caught up yet, the first two seasons are already available on Netflix, so this is the right time to binge before October hits.
