Re:ZERO Season 4 Episode 6 is not just another tower battle episode. This one quietly sets up a much bigger problem for Subaru’s group: Reid, the original Sword Saint, is standing in the way, and everyone needs to get past him if they want to climb further.
That sounds simple on paper. Beat the boss, move to the next floor. But this is Re:ZERO, so of course the answer is not just “hit harder”. Reid is one of the legendary figures tied to the sealing of the Witch of Envy, which makes him a ridiculous wall for the party. Julius and Emilia get the spotlight here, but the same challenge is waiting for Subaru, Anastasia, Meili, Ram, and even Rem.
The interesting part is that Reid does not seem like a normal unbeatable raid boss. He bends the rules, talks big, and clearly enjoys messing with challengers, but there is a strange logic to him. He wants things to look cool by his own standards. That means brute force may not be the only route. For SEA fans who love theory-crafting after every weekly episode, this is the kind of setup that keeps Discord chats alive: the “win condition” may be more mental than physical.
Emilia’s fight adds a very Re:ZERO kind of character beat. Reid’s crude behaviour towards her does not land the way he expects because Emilia is too sheltered and sincere to process it normally. That throws him off long enough for her to land a clean strike. It is funny in the moment, but it also says plenty about both characters. Emilia’s innocence is not just a gag here; it becomes part of how she survives an opponent who fights as much with attitude as with a blade.
The heavier material belongs to Julius. He has always lived in the shadow of stronger names, especially Reinhard. His pride is built around being chosen by Anastasia, but after the recent memory-related fallout, that bond is now something only he can properly hold onto. So when he faces Reid, he already knows he is badly outmatched. Still, backing away would mean accepting a version of himself he cannot stomach.
That is where the episode draws a strong line back to Season 1. Julius and Subaru both understand what this fight resembles: Subaru’s humiliating clash with Julius from earlier in the story. This time, Julius is the one making a reckless declaration and taking punishment he cannot realistically overcome. It feels like he is borrowing from Subaru’s old playbook, but with the painful self-awareness that Subaru lacked back then.
Subaru, meanwhile, becomes the emotional anchor. He may still carry resentment over what Julius did to him, and the embarrassment from that old fight is not something he can simply erase. But he also recognises the pattern. Subaru knows what it is like to hit the bottom, insist on walking alone, and then realise that someone else’s support can be the difference between growth and collapse.
That makes the staircase scene hit harder than the actual fighting. Subaru first carries Julius, almost dragging him along the road of heroism. Julius rejects that because his pride demands that he move forward himself. But the compromise is the point: Subaru does not abandon him, and Julius does not get to pretend he needs nobody. They move together, with Subaru supporting him without stealing the choice from him.
For Malaysian and SEA Re:ZERO fans, this is the type of episode that rewards long-term memory. The action matters, sure, but the real meat is in how old emotional wounds get reshaped into new character growth. It is not hype for hype’s sake. It is Re:ZERO doing what it does best: making a fantasy trial feel like a personal breakdown with swords.
A few details also feel worth watching. Reid mentions seven people in the tower, which likely refers to Subaru, Anastasia, Meili, Ram, Rem, Julius, and Emilia, while excluding spirits and Shaula. Reid also appears to be the original Sword Saint or some form of him, though that does not necessarily mean he has the current Divine Protection of the Sword Saint. And with the healing room plus Reid not killing the challengers, the whole tower setup gives the party a way to keep retrying without permanent physical consequences.
Basically, Episode 6 turns Reid from a simple power-check into a puzzle, and Julius from a polished knight into someone forced to confront his own weakness properly. That is a strong combo, bro.
