Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint has picked up Satoshi Morie’s My Dear, A Mystery For You manga for English release, with the first volume planned for May 2027.
For mystery manga fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is one to keep on the radar — especially if you like compact, character-driven series instead of another long-running title that eats your whole shelf space and wallet.
What is My Dear, A Mystery For You about?
The story follows Ayano, a proper bookworm who is almost always absorbed in whatever she is reading. Her path crosses with Takayuki Nōmi, a novelist who has become a detective, after a certain incident brings them together.
From there, Ayano ends up working alongside Takayuki as his assistant, with the pair moving from case to case. So yes, the setup has that classic mystery-duo energy: one literary-minded lead, one detective figure, and a string of problems waiting to be solved.
The manga’s Japanese title is Shinai naru A-jō e no Mystery.
A short series, which is actually good news
Morie launched the manga in Kodansha’s ITAN magazine in October 2016, and the series wrapped up in February 2018. Kodansha later collected it into three compiled volumes.
That three-volume length is a big plus, honestly. For Malaysian readers who collect physical manga, shorter series are easier to commit to — less damage to the bank account, less shelf anxiety, and no waiting through 20 volumes just to see whether the plot sticks the landing.
Since Kana’s first English volume is only arriving in 2027, local availability details are still something fans will need to watch closer to release. But an official English edition usually makes a title easier to discover through international book retailers, manga import shops, and larger bookstores that bring in English manga.
Why Satoshi Morie may be worth watching
Satoshi Morie is not a new name if you follow josei and mystery-leaning manga. Morie also created Killing Line, which began in Kodansha’s Be Love magazine in June 2023 and ended in May 2025. Kodansha published the fifth and final volume in July 2025. Kodansha USA is releasing that series in English, with its third volume out in June 2025.
Before that, Morie launched Searching for My Perfect Brother — known in Japanese as Watashi no Tadashii Onii-chan — in Be Love in 2018. That manga ended with its fourth volume in June 2020. It also received a live-action adaptation in Japan, which premiered on Fuji on Demand in October 2021. Viki streamed the series internationally under the title My Right Older Brother.
That track record gives My Dear, A Mystery For You a bit more weight. This is not just a random old manga getting dusted off. It is another work from a creator whose stories have already travelled into English and live-action spaces.
Should SEA fans care?
If your anime and manga diet is mostly shonen, this probably is not the loudest announcement of the week. But if you enjoy mystery, literary vibes, and smaller manga that feel more focused, this is exactly the kind of license that can quietly become a nice collection pick.
The May 2027 release window is still far away, so no need to rush. Just mark the title now, especially if you are building a mystery manga shelf beyond the usual big names.
