Scum of the Brave is pushing into its next big fight

The TV anime adaptation of Scum of the Brave has rolled out its fourth promotional video, and this one is all about raising the heat for the show’s current clash. The new PV previews the final stage of the battle between Shinigami Yashiro and Lord Storm Coffin, giving fans a clearer look at where the anime’s latest arc is heading.

Alongside the trailer, the staff also revealed the anime’s third main visual, so yes, this is basically the show telling everyone: “we’re entering the serious bit now.”

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans who prefer waiting until a series has enough episodes to binge, this is the kind of update that says it might be time to catch up. A fourth PV usually means the production wants to spotlight a major turning point, and with the anime running for two cours without a break, there’s quite a bit of runway here.

What is Scum of the Brave about?

The original manga comes from writer Rocket Shokai and artist Nakashima723. In English, Manga Planet publishes the manga digitally.

The setting is an alternate 21st century where wealthy mafia figures can undergo ether-enhancement surgery and become “Demon Kings.” To deal with them, society relies on bounty hunters known as “Braves.”

The main guy, Yashiro, is not exactly the shining hero type. He would rather keep life simple with pizza, beer, and card games. But when three young Braves offer him serious money to become their private tutor, he accepts the job for cash — and naturally, things become way messier than a chill payday.

Honestly, that premise is pretty fun because it plays with the usual hero fantasy setup. Instead of a clean-cut chosen one story, this has bounty hunter chaos, mafia power-ups, and a protagonist who sounds more like your tired senior at the mamak table than a noble saviour.

New cast, staff, and music details

The cast includes Yumiri Hanamori as Sara Kashiwagi Pendragon and Yūichirō Umehara as Lord “Wedge of Both Hands.”

Behind the scenes, Shinji Ushiro is directing the anime at OLM. Yoichi Kato is handling and supervising the series scripts, Rika Murakami is on character designs, and Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music. Tsunetaka Ema is credited as compositing director of photography.

For the theme songs, ClariS performs the new opening theme, “Revive,” while rock band w.o.d. handles the new ending theme, “Non-Fiction.” ClariS on an OP is always worth noting — SEA anime fans know that name carries weight, especially if you’ve been around since the big anisong boom years.

Streaming and release details

The anime premiered on NTV and affiliated channels on January 10 at 24:55, which effectively means January 11 at 12:55am. It streams first on D-Anime and Hulu before other platforms, and also airs on AT-X.

For international viewers, Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs. For Malaysia, that is the main detail to watch, since Crunchyroll is usually the most straightforward legal route for simulcast anime — though as always, availability can depend on region and licensing.

The manga began in 2018 on LEED Publishing’s Comic Border service, with its eighth volume released on December 18. Rocket Shokai originally launched the story on Kakuyomu in February 2016, and the series is also being republished in revised novel form with illustrations by toi8. The second novel volume shipped on February 20.

If you like darker action anime with a slightly scummy adult lead instead of the usual pure-hearted hero, this one is worth keeping on your radar.
