The TV anime adaptation of Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta — officially translated as I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class. — has rolled out a new update for rom-com fans.

The series’ official website revealed three supporting cast additions alongside its third promotional video on Tuesday, giving viewers a better look at the wider class dynamic around the main story.

For Malaysia and SEA anime fans, this one sits in that very familiar school rom-com lane: low-stakes on paper, but powered by character chemistry, awkward friendship energy, and the kind of emotional small moments that can either hit hard or fall flat depending on execution. Basically, if you enjoy classroom romance series where the hook is less “world-ending drama” and more “bro, just say what you feel already,” this is worth keeping on your seasonal radar.

New supporting cast announced

The newly revealed cast includes:

  • Rikuya Yasuda as Nozomu Seki
  • Shinji Kawada as Itsuki Maehara
  • Yurina Amami as Kyoka Minato

The extra cast should help flesh out the social circle around the lead characters, which matters a lot for this type of rom-com. A school romance anime lives or dies by more than just the central pair — classmates, friends, and side characters are often what make the banter feel natural instead of overly scripted.

Broadcast details

The anime premiered in Japan on April 7 and airs every Tuesday at 11:30 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX, before also airing on KTV and BS Asahi.

For Malaysian viewers, that Japanese broadcast slot works out to around 10:30 p.m. MYT. That does not automatically confirm local streaming timing, but it gives SEA fans a useful reference point when tracking episode drops and discussion online.

Staff behind the anime

The anime is directed by Hideki Tachibana at Connect, with Takumi Shibata serving as assistant director. Keiichirou Oochi is handling series composition and scripts, while Shouko Takimoto is in charge of character designs.

Music is being composed by Ruka Kawada, Shuuhei Mutsuki, and Yayoi Sekimukai.

That staff list is pretty relevant because rom-com adaptations need clean pacing. Too slow, and it feels sleepy. Too rushed, and the relationship beats lose impact. With a light novel base and ongoing manga adaptation, the anime has enough material to work from — the challenge is making the emotional progression feel earned.

From web novel to light novel, manga, and anime

The story began as a romantic comedy novel by Takata on Kakuyomu in November 2020. Kadokawa later picked it up under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko label, with illustrations by Tom Osabe, starting in December 2021.

The light novel’s ninth volume was released on April 1, while the tenth volume is scheduled for July 1.

There is also a manga version by Rin Ono, which started serialization on Alive+ in July 2022. Kadokawa published the manga’s seventh volume in December 2025, with volume eight planned for June 26.

For English readers, Yen Press licensed the manga adaptation in December 2024. The second English volume was released in November 2025, and the third volume is set for June 23.

So if the anime clicks with you, there are multiple ways to continue the story — especially useful for Malaysian fans who prefer collecting English manga physically or digitally instead of waiting week by week.
