Sgt. Frog is properly marching back, and the new 20th anniversary anime film is stacking up some fun guest talent.

The official website for Shin Gekijōban ☆ Keroro Gunsō Fukkatsu Shite Sokkō Chikyū Metsubō no Kiki de Arimasu! — translated as New Sgt. Frog the Movie: The Earth Is in Mortal Peril as Soon as We Come Back! — has announced that ano and Soshina will appear in the film as guest cast members.

That is not just a random casting drop either. ano and Soshina are already performing the movie’s opening theme, “Mata Kaettekita KERO! to MARCH”, so this gives them a bigger presence in the anniversary project. ano will voice a researcher robot, while Soshina is playing a man in Shibuya. Comedian Shinobu Hasegawa is also joining the project as the film’s narrator.

For older anime fans in Malaysia and SEA, Sgt. Frog is one of those titles that feels very 2000s in the best way. The series had that chaotic comedy energy: alien invasion plans, lazy house chores, otaku jokes, and ridiculous military parody all mashed into one frog-shaped package. If you grew up around Animax-era anime, DVD shops, or just hunting episodes online back then, Keroro probably has some nostalgic pull.

The film also has JESSE from SixTONES voicing two new characters, Aruru and Deruru. The two are brothers from planet Keron, and they apparently share some kind of history with Sgt. Frog’s unit. That sounds like the movie is not only doing anniversary fanservice, but also adding fresh Keronian lore for longtime fans to chew on.

Behind the scenes, the film has a pretty notable team. Yūichi Fukuda, known for live-action works like Gintama, Saint Young Men, and HK/Hentai Kamen, is serving as supervising director and scriptwriter. Fumitoshi Oizaki, who previously worked as Sgt. Frog character designer and directed titles like Romeo X Juliet, Etotama, Akuma Kun, and The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl, is directing the anime at Bandai Namco Pictures. Satoshi Koike is handling character designs, with credits including Etotama, Soul Eater Not!, and Princess Connect! Re:Dive season 2.

ano is also doing more than the opening theme. She will perform another theme song for the film titled “Kashippanashi Destiny”.

The bigger picture: Sgt. Frog is not stopping at one anniversary movie. A completely new TV anime titled Keroro Gunsō ☆ is also planned for fall 2026. That series will feature a brand-new cast, while the upcoming movie keeps the existing franchise cast. So fans basically get two flavours: nostalgia first, then a fresh reboot-style entry after that.

That matters for SEA viewers because older comedy franchises like this can be tricky to revive. If the movie lands well, it could bring back lapsed fans while giving younger anime viewers a cleaner entry point before the new TV anime arrives. Sgt. Frog’s humour is very accessible too — aliens trying to conquer Earth but getting distracted by human nonsense is still a strong comedy setup, bro.

The original Sgt. Frog anime, based on Mine Yoshizaki’s manga, ran from 2004 to 2011 under Sunrise and produced five feature films. Crunchyroll began adding the earlier TV anime to its catalog in 2021. Discotek also licensed the anime and has been releasing all 358 episodes across SD Blu-ray Disc volumes by season, with seasons 5-7 released last year.

For now, the new movie is shaping up like a proper anniversary celebration: familiar cast, new Keron characters, music-linked guest roles, and a comedy team that understands how weird this franchise can get. If you miss Keroro’s nonsense, this comeback is worth keeping on the radar.
