Shiboyugi is bringing its death game chaos to cinemas

Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table 44: Cloudy Beach has dropped a fresh trailer and new key visual, giving fans another look at the upcoming anime movie before it hits Japanese theatres in 2026.

The film is currently scheduled for a limited two-week cinema run in Japan starting July 10, 2026. That short window is worth noting, especially for SEA fans who usually depend on regional cinema pickups, streaming platforms, or later home video releases for anime films like this. So far, the announcement only covers Japan, meaning Malaysian fans should keep an eye out for updates from local distributors or anime cinema chains closer to release.

New voice cast joins the movie

The new cast additions include a pretty stacked list of seiyuu names:

  • Yume Miyamoto as Airi
  • Anna Nagase as Essei
  • Yukari Tamura as Koyomi
  • Konomi Inagaki as Hizumi
  • Aino Shimada as Maguma
  • Riko Akechi as Mitsuba
  • Hikaru Tono as Mozuku

Meanwhile, Chiyuki Miura is returning as the lead character Yuki. That continuity is important because Yuki is basically the twisted heart of this whole story — a teenager who treats life-or-death games less like a nightmare and more like a job. Gila concept, but that is exactly the hook.

Studio DEEN and the original anime staff are back

The movie is being animated by Studio DEEN, with the main staff from the first season returning. Sota Ueno is directing, Rintarou Ikeda is handling series composition, Eri Osada is on character design, and Noriyoshi Konuma is the sound director.

That returning team should help keep the tone consistent, which matters for a series like this. Shiboyugi is not just “cute girls in danger” for shock value — the appeal comes from balancing stylish character designs, psychological tension, and the absurd idea that someone can literally make a living by surviving death games. If the movie nails that mix, it could be a fun one for fans who like their anime with traps, mind games, and a darker survival edge.

What is Shiboyugi about?

The anime is based on the light novel series written by Yushi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometaru, published under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint since November 2022. The series also has a manga adaptation by Banzai Kotobuki Daienkai.

For English-reading fans, the light novel has been licensed by Yen Press. The premise follows Yuki, who wakes up inside a strange manor wearing a maid outfit. She soon finds five other girls dressed the same way. The place is known as the Ghost House, and survival means clearing deadly rooms filled with traps, weapons, locked spaces, and all kinds of nasty game mechanics.

Most people would panic. Yuki? Not so much. At only seventeen, this is apparently her line of work.

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, Shiboyugi sits in that lane between survival horror, light novel absurdity, and seiyuu-driven character appeal. If you enjoy series where the cast looks cute but the situation is absolutely cooked, this one should be on your radar — especially once we know whether the movie gets any international screening or streaming route.
