Slime’s Second Movie Drops New Action Trailer With Dub and Sub Options

Crunchyroll has released a new trailer for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, giving fans a better look at the film’s action side.

The movie, known in Japanese as Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen, is the second anime film in the long-running That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise. The trailer is available with English dub or Japanese audio with English subtitles, which viewers can switch through the video settings.

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, that flexibility matters. Some of us are sub-only purists, some just want to chill after work with an English dub, and Slime is mainstream enough that both camps are absolutely watching this. Having both options upfront makes the movie easier to recommend to friends who are newer to anime too.

Rimuru Gets a Resort Trip… Then Trouble Arrives

The film uses an original story set after the celebration for the founding of the Tempest Federation. Rimuru and other senior Tempest officials are invited by Elmesia, ruler of the elf nation Sarion, to take a break at a resort island.

Of course, this is anime. A peaceful vacation never stays peaceful for long.

While Rimuru and the crew are enjoying their short getaway, a mysterious girl named Yura appears, and a darker threat begins to build in the background. So yes, we are getting the classic Slime formula again: politics, fantasy nations, cute downtime, then suddenly someone has to throw hands.

The film opened in Japan on February 27 and had a strong start, ranking #3 during its opening weekend. In its first three days, it sold 225,000 tickets and earned 301,175,600 yen, around US$1.91 million.

No Malaysia-specific cinema or streaming release detail was included in the source report, so for now SEA fans should keep an eye on Crunchyroll and local anime film distributors. Slime has a big enough audience here that any regional update will be worth watching closely.

Music Lineup Is Pretty Stacked

The movie’s theme song is “Utopia” by TRUE, a familiar name for anime fans who pay attention to anisong credits.

There are also multiple insert songs attached to the film. Saori Ōnishi, who voices Yura, performs “Sōkoku” (Blue Moment). The six-member unit ARCANA PROJECT performs “Renainō” (Talent for Romance), while STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION teams up with ASH from ASH DA HERO for “Harmonics.”

That is a pretty solid music package, especially for a franchise that already knows how to balance comfy fantasy vibes with big emotional moments.

Slime Is Not Slowing Down

The timing is good for fans because the TV anime is also still moving hard. Season 4 premiered on April 3 and is planned for a total of five cours, with the first two cours airing continuously. Studio 8-Bit is back on animation duties, and Miho Okasaki returns as the voice of Rimuru Tempest.

For anyone catching up, the Slime anime began in October 2018, adapting Taiki Kawakami’s manga, which itself adapts the light novels by Fuse and Mitz Vah. Season 2 arrived in 2021, alongside The Slime Diaries, giving fans a long stretch of Slime content that year. Season 3 aired in 2024 for two continuous cours and wrapped in September 2024.

The franchise has also had several side entries, including the first film Scarlet Bond in 2022 and the three-episode Visions of Coleus anime in 2023.

At this point, Slime is basically one of the safest modern isekai picks: big world-building, friendly entry point, enough action to keep things moving, and a fanbase that is still very much alive. If Tears of the Azure Sea keeps the action sharp while giving Rimuru’s crew a fresh setting, SEA fans will have another easy watchlist addition.
