Nintendo is already letting fans vibe with the new Star Fox before the game even lands on Switch 2.
After the surprise Star Fox Direct revealed a Switch 2 remake of the classic N64 title, Nintendo quietly added an early soundtrack preview to Nintendo Music. The drop is listed as a “Special Release” and includes 10 tracks from the upcoming game.
If you have Nintendo Switch Online, you can listen through the Nintendo Music app on Android or iOS, or via Nintendo’s official page. Basically, if you’re already paying for NSO to play online or access retro titles, this is a nice little bonus while waiting for the remake.
For Malaysian and SEA Nintendo fans, this is the kind of small update that matters more than it looks. Nintendo Music still feels like a companion app for hardcore fans, but early soundtrack access gives Switch Online subscribers something extra beyond multiplayer and retro libraries. If you grew up with Star Fox 64, or only know Fox McCloud from Super Smash Bros, this is an easy way to get a taste of how Nintendo is refreshing the game’s mood for Switch 2.
The track names reportedly avoid spoilers, so you can browse the list without worrying about ruining any story or stage surprises. That is good news for fans who want the music preview but still prefer going into the remake clean.
Inside the app, each song also comes with its own image. These visuals seem to hint at where the tracks may appear in the game, giving fans a little bit of speculation fuel without fully spelling things out. You know lah, Nintendo fans will absolutely zoom in on every screenshot and start theories immediately.
The soundtrack preview also gives us a better look at the album artwork for the new Switch 2 version. The cover features updated designs for the four main Star Fox team members. From left to right, the artwork shows Falco Lombardi, Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad.
That updated character art is probably going to be a big part of how fans judge this remake. Star Fox is one of those Nintendo series with a very specific old-school identity, so the challenge is making it look modern without sanding off the charm. The early art suggests Nintendo is leaning into cleaner, sharper versions of the original crew rather than a full reinvention.
The big question now is how much this remake changes beyond visuals and music. The N64 game is beloved because it was tight, fast, replayable, and full of memorable radio chatter. For SEA players jumping in on Switch 2, especially younger fans who never owned an N64, this could be their first proper Star Fox experience outside of Smash references.
Star Fox is scheduled to release for Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. Until then, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can check out the 10-track preview on Nintendo Music through the Android and iOS app.
