Studio Ghibli fans, this is one of those cinema lineups that makes you immediately check your calendar.

Tickets are now available for Studio Ghibli Fest 2026, with a seven-film programme pulling from some of the studio’s most beloved titles. The event has also released an announcement trailer, giving fans a quick look at the movies returning to the big screen.

The 2026 edition is especially anniversary-heavy. Tales from Earthsea, directed by Goro Miyazaki, is entering the Ghibli Fest lineup for the first time while marking its 20th anniversary. Isao Takahata’s Only Yesterday is also part of the programme for its 35th anniversary.

Then you have the proper heavy hitters: Castle in the Sky celebrates its 40th anniversary, while Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning Spirited Away returns for its 25th anniversary and will close out the 2026 series. Memang stacked.

Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 lineup

The full seven-film lineup includes:

  • Ponyo — June 13-17
  • My Neighbor Totoro — July 11-15
  • Tales from Earthsea 20th Anniversary — August 8 and August 10
  • Only Yesterday 35th Anniversary — August 9 and August 11
  • Castle in the Sky 40th Anniversary — August 22-26
  • Princess Mononoke – 4K Remastered — September 26-30
  • Spirited Away 25th Anniversary — October 17-21

Screenings are listed in local time, with both dubbed and subtitled showings depending on the title and date. For fans who usually argue sub vs dub in the group chat, yes, both camps get something here.

Why Malaysian and SEA fans should care

The current ticketing details are tied to participating theatre box offices and the official Ghibli Fest channels, including Fathom Entertainment and GhibliFest.com. So for Malaysian fans, this is not automatically a local cinema announcement yet.

But it is still worth watching closely. Ghibli films have a strong following here, especially among anime fans who grew up with Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo through DVDs, streaming, TV reruns, or cinema re-releases. Whenever these titles get a proper big-screen run, the vibe is totally different from just rewatching at home on Netflix.

For SEA audiences, the big question is whether local distributors or cinema chains will pick up similar anniversary screenings. Malaysia has already shown there is a solid appetite for anime films in cinemas, from major shonen releases to Makoto Shinkai movies and special screenings. A Ghibli anniversary run would fit nicely, especially if cinemas offer subtitled shows for longtime fans and dubbed sessions for families.

The Princess Mononoke 4K Remastered screening is also a big deal. That film is still one of Ghibli’s most intense, visually powerful works, and a cleaner cinema presentation would hit way harder than a compressed stream. Meanwhile, Spirited Away turning 25 is the kind of milestone that could easily bring both hardcore anime fans and casual moviegoers back into the same hall.

Ticket perks and details

As part of the celebration, BoxLunch and Hot Topic are offering a 25% in-store discount when attendees show a Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 ticket stub. Details are available through the retailers.

Tickets for Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 are on sale now online and through participating theatre box offices, though locations may change. More information is available through Fathom Entertainment and GhibliFest.com.

For Malaysian fans, keep this one on your radar. If local screenings happen, this is the kind of lineup you don’t want to hear about after all the good seats are gone.
