The Apothecary Diaries Recipe Book Is Already Selling Out Before Launch

The Apothecary Diaries hype train is not slowing down, bro. Before Season 3 and its upcoming movie even arrive, the series has already scored another win: its first official recipe book is apparently so in-demand that it is getting a reprint before the book officially launches.

The new book is scheduled to release in Japan on May 13, 2026. For now, it is Japan-only, with no confirmed global release yet. But considering how strong the anime’s overseas fanbase has become, especially among Crunchyroll viewers in SEA, don’t be surprised if fans start hunting this through import bookstores or Japanese online shops pretty quickly.

The concept is very on-brand for The Apothecary Diaries. Instead of just being a basic fanbook, the recipe book recreates food and drink from the story, letting readers actually try dishes connected to Maomao’s world. According to the report, the book includes 23 recipes supervised by original author Natsu Hyuuga. Yes, that includes the chocolate-based “love potion” Maomao created in the series.

On top of that, Hyuuga has written six new short stories for the book, with each story tied to a new recipe. That makes this more than merch for collectors. For fans who follow the light novel and anime closely, this is fresh side content from the original creator — exactly the kind of thing that makes a Japan-only release painful for international fans.

The cover also helps explain why pre-orders moved so fast. It features Maomao and Jinshi in an illustration by Touko Shino, the artist behind the light novel artwork. For a series where the chemistry between those two is half the fun, that alone is enough to tempt collectors.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, the big question is simple: will this get an English release, or at least become easier to buy outside Japan? Right now, nothing has been announced. If it stays Japan-exclusive, expect import pricing to be spicy once shipping and reseller markups kick in. Still, anime recipe books do have a niche audience here — especially among fans who like themed cafe culture, cosplay gatherings, and making content for TikTok or Instagram.

The timing is also smart. The Apothecary Diaries is heading into a busy stretch, with Season 3 planned as a two-cour return. The first cour is expected to premiere in October, while the report also mentions a second cour for spring, though the exact timing remains a little unclear. An original feature film is also on the way for Japanese cinemas in December, written by Hyuuga, but international release details are still under wraps.

As for the anime story, Season 3 should continue the palace mystery drama with Maomao being pulled into more cases by Jinshi. The report points to material around the fifth light novel volume, including challenges connected to northern farming villages.

There are also major character consequences still hanging over the plot. Season 2 pushed Maomao and Jinshi’s relationship forward in a big way, especially after Maomao learned Jinshi’s real identity. Jinshi, also known as the Moon Prince Ka Zuigetsu, had been hiding behind the role of a eunuch to avoid palace succession politics.

That secret became impossible to maintain after Maomao was kidnapped by the Shi Clan. Jinshi stepped up, defeated the clan, and returned to his duties as royalty. Meanwhile, Maomao left the palace after Concubine Gyokuyou’s son was born, with her adoptive father becoming the Rear Palace physician while she returned to work at Verdigris House.

In short, the recipe book selling out early is not just cute merch news. It shows how strong The Apothecary Diaries brand has become outside normal episode hype. The anime has mystery, romance tension, palace politics, and now even food content fans actually want to cook. Memang solid.

If you need to catch up before Season 3, the first two seasons are available on Crunchyroll.
