Fantasy anime fans, keep this one on your radar: The Cat and the Dragon has rolled out a new trailer, a fresh key visual, and three more voice cast additions ahead of its planned July 2026 premiere.
The newly announced cast members are:
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Gally
- Chika Anzai as Anne Rossa
- Junya Enoki as Stan
That is a pretty solid voice lineup to add on top of what the show already had. For anime fans in Malaysia and SEA who follow seiyuu news, these names are definitely not random filler announcements. Atsumi Tanezaki especially has been everywhere in recent years, and Junya Enoki is also a familiar name if you keep up with modern shonen and fantasy titles.
The anime was first announced last year, with Studio OLM handling animation production. Jin-Koo Oh is directing the series, while Mitsutaka Hirota is in charge of the script. Character designs are being handled by Rie Nishino and Chiaki Kurakazu, with Takahiro Obata composing the music.
The previously revealed cast includes:
- Takehito Koyasu as Nekoryu
- Kikuko Inoue as Mama-nyan
- Fuka Izumi as Shirotae
- Show Hayami as Kurobane
- Noriaki Sugiyama as Haibuchi
- Maki Kawase as Chiikuro
- Shinnosuke Tokudome as Kurotama
For SEA viewers, the big thing here is timing. A July 2026 debut puts The Cat and the Dragon in the summer anime window, which is usually packed with big-name sequels, fantasy adaptations, and surprise comfort shows. This one sounds like it could land in that cosy fantasy lane — not necessarily the loudest title of the season, but potentially the kind of series that gets passed around anime group chats if the characters hit right.
The series comes from the light novel written by Amara, with illustrations by Mai Okuma. Before becoming a published light novel, it started life as a short story on Shosetsuka ni Naro, running from September 2013 to June 2014. After gaining traction online, it was picked up by Takarajimasha for print release in April 2016.
There is also a manga version by Izumi Sasaki, which has been running on Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web since September 2017.
That web novel-to-light novel-to-manga-to-anime pipeline is very familiar by now, especially for fantasy fans. The main question is whether The Cat and the Dragon can stand out in a crowded field. The cast is promising, OLM gives it a recognisable studio name, and the long-running source material means there is already a base for the anime to work from.
For Malaysian anime fans, this is one to watch for future streaming announcements. No regional platform details were included in this reveal, so we will have to wait and see whether it lands somewhere easily accessible for SEA audiences closer to release.
