The Days of Diamond Manga Returns This June After Hiatus

Ōhashi Hirai’s baseball manga The Days of Diamond is heading back to the lineup this June.

According to the latest issue of Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine, the series will resume serialization in the magazine’s 27th issue, which goes on sale on June 4. The manga had been on break since January 22, so fans who have been waiting for the next chapter finally have a date to circle.

For those tracking the series closely, this is not its first pause. The Days of Diamond also returned from a previous hiatus on September 18, and before that, the manga took a break in August 2024 due to personal reasons involving Hirai. That earlier break was fairly short, with the series coming back near the end of the same month.

The manga, also known by its Japanese title Diamond no Kōzai, first launched in Young Jump in February 2023. Shueisha released the series’ ninth compiled volume on December 18.

For Malaysia and SEA readers, the good news is that MANGA Plus is releasing the series digitally. That matters because sports manga can be a bit harder to follow legally here compared to the massive shonen action titles. If you’re the type who follows manga week-to-week instead of waiting for physical imports or fan chatter to catch up, digital availability makes this return much easier to keep on your radar.

Baseball may not be the default sport for Malaysian readers the way football or badminton is, but sports manga has always had a way of selling the emotion first: pressure, rivalries, talent, burnout, comeback arcs — all the good stuff. That’s why titles outside our usual local sports culture can still hit hard when the characters and team drama land properly.

The repeated hiatuses also mean this return will be watched quite closely by fans. On one hand, readers obviously want consistency, especially for a serialized manga where momentum matters. On the other hand, manga production is brutal, and breaks are sometimes the healthier choice if the creator needs time. Better a series returns properly than pushes through and falls apart later, no cap.

With the June 4 restart now announced, The Days of Diamond fans can finally look forward to the next chapter after several months of waiting. If you’ve fallen behind, this is probably the right time to catch up before the manga steps back onto the field.
