The Duke’s Son Claims He Won’t Love Me Yet Showers Me with Adoration is getting a bit more royal drama before its July debut, bro.

The upcoming TV anime has confirmed two additional cast members, with Ryōhei Kimura joining as Aleksis Josef Ralt, the crown prince of the Kingdom of Ralt. Aleksis is also the lord connected to Julius Royus, so expect him to sit pretty close to the main noble-circle politics of the story.

Also joining the cast is Ryōta Suzuki as Jere Ekrous, one of Prince Aleksis’ aides alongside Julius. Basically, the anime is slowly filling out the power structure around its central romance, which matters a lot for this kind of aristocratic love-story setup.

What is this anime about?

The story follows Elsa, the daughter of a noble family that has fallen from status. Out of nowhere, she receives a marriage proposal from Julius, a high-ranking aristocrat who seems way above her social position.

Naturally, Elsa is confused. Why would someone that elite want to marry her?

At first, Julius appears gentle and kind. Then after the wedding, the vibe changes hard. He tells Elsa that he does not plan to love her, setting up the classic cold-husband romance tension that fans of noble romance manga will instantly recognise.

If you are into the whole dramatic arranged marriage, misunderstood affection, icy male lead slowly melting type of story, this one is basically aiming straight at that lane.

Staff and release details

The anime is being directed by Hitoyuki Matsui, known for works such as Dokkoida?! and Puppet Master Sakon. Animation production is handled by Zero-G and Grass, with Kaoru Suzuki credited for planning technical direction.

Series scripts are being overseen by Tomoko Konparu, whose credits include Blue Spring Ride and Dance with Devils. Character designs are by Yūko Yahiro, who worked on Aharen-san wa Hakarenai and Attack on Titan: Junior High. Music comes from MICHIRU, known for Ascendance of a Bookworm and Given, while Saber Links is handling sound production.

The anime is scheduled to premiere in July on TV Asahi and BS Asahi in Japan.

Why SEA fans should keep an eye on it

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, July is usually one of those seasons where romantic fantasy titles either quietly disappear or suddenly become everyone’s comfort watch. This one has the kind of premise that can travel well: noble politics, marriage drama, emotional push-pull, and a male lead who says one thing but clearly has a lot more going on.

There is no Malaysia or SEA streaming platform confirmed in the provided details yet, so jangan jump the gun. But because the manga is already available in English through Flex Comix on digital platforms, this is one of those titles that could pick up interest fast if a regional streamer grabs it near the broadcast window.

The original manga comes from writer Kei Misawa and artist Natsu Mizuno. It first launched on the BookLive digital bookstore in February 2021, and Flex Comix released the fifth volume on March 13.

So yeah, not a massive action blockbuster, but for fans who want soft angst, aristocrat romance, and probably plenty of emotional damage before the payoff, this July anime is worth putting on the watchlist.
