Takuma Sakai’s The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma is officially making the jump from light novel to anime.

The news was announced during Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026, confirming that the series — known in Japanese as Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note — is getting an anime adaptation. No broadcast window, studio, staff list, or streaming information was included in the source, so for now this is still very much an early announcement.

The reveal came with an announcement video voiced by Kanna Nakamura, who plays Rio Iwama in the video. The clip also featured artwork by Asagi Tōsaka, the illustrator of the original light novels. To mark the anime news, Lap Tsutsumi, the artist behind the manga adaptation, also drew a celebratory illustration.

What is The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma about?

The series follows the science club at Tsunagai High School, where the members investigate the strange little mysteries that pop up in everyday life. It is not being positioned as a huge battle fantasy or another isekai power trip; the hook here sounds more grounded — school club activities, curiosity-driven problem-solving, and a first-love storyline running alongside the science-flavoured mystery angle.

That mix could be the interesting part. Anime has always had space for club-room stories where the drama comes from personalities, small discoveries, and emotional timing rather than world-ending stakes. If the adaptation leans into the chemistry of the club members, this could become one of those quieter shows that sneaks onto seasonal watchlists.

Where the original series stands now

Kadokawa published the first light novel volume in November 2024, with illustrations by Asagi Tōsaka. The fourth volume is scheduled to ship on October 9.

The series has also already expanded into manga. Lap Tsutsumi launched the manga adaptation in Kadokawa’s Comic Dengeki DaiohG magazine on April 27.

Sakai and Tōsaka are not new to anime adaptations either. They previously worked together on Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig, also known as Buta no Liver wa Kanetsu Shiro. Sakai launched that novel series in March 2020 after winning the gold prize — effectively second place — at the 26th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2019. Butareba later received a manga adaptation and a TV anime that premiered in October 2023. J-Novel Club releases both the novels and manga in English.

Why this matters for Malaysia and SEA anime fans

Analysis: For Malaysia and Southeast Asian viewers, the main thing to watch is how this adaptation lands in the seasonal anime mix once more details come out. The source does not mention any SEA streaming platform, local release plan, or premiere timing, so no assumptions there.

But concept-wise, The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma could appeal to fans who enjoy school-life anime with a brainy twist — less screaming power levels, more “wait, why is this happening?” club investigation energy. If the romance element is handled well, it might also hit that sweet spot between light mystery and emotional coming-of-age story.

For now, we wait for the big missing pieces: studio, director, cast expansion, trailer footage, and release window. Still, as early adaptation announcements go, this one has a clean pitch: science club, daily-life mysteries, first love, and a creative team with prior anime-adaptation experience. Not bad lah.
