Time Crisis Is Coming to PS4 and PS5 With Gyro Aiming

Time Crisis is making its way back to PlayStation, and this one is a nice little nostalgia hit for anyone who grew up with arcade shooters or PS1-era chaos.

The original Time Crisis will be added to the PlayStation Plus Classic lineup for PS4 and PS5 on May 19, 2026. The big update here is that this version will include gyro aim, giving modern players a new way to handle what was originally built as a light-gun shooter.

That matters because Time Crisis was never just another shooting game. Back in the arcade days, the whole appeal was the pedal system, quick reactions, cover mechanics, and that satisfying light-gun aiming. Obviously, most of us are not plugging a GunCon into a PS5 in 2026, so gyro aiming could be the closest practical replacement for that old-school feel.

Sony and Bandai Namco have not confirmed whether the motion controls will go beyond aiming. So for now, don’t assume there will be gyro-based reloads, dodges, or cover movement. The confirmed feature is gyro aim, and honestly, that alone already makes this version more interesting than a basic emulated port.

For Malaysian and SEA players, this is one of those PlayStation Classics drops that hits a very specific memory lane. Time Crisis was a proper arcade staple here, especially in malls, game centres, and older family entertainment spots. Even if you never owned the PS1 version, there’s a good chance you saw someone sweating through it at an arcade cabinet.

The game will be available through PlayStation Plus Premium, with the source listing the subscription plan at US$17.99 per month. As always, Malaysian players should check the local PlayStation Store because PS Plus tier names and pricing can vary by region. In some markets, classics are tied to different tier branding, so don’t blindly follow the US label.

There is also good news for players who prefer owning games instead of renting them through a subscription. Like some earlier PlayStation Classics releases, Time Crisis is expected to be sold separately on the PlayStation Store after it arrives through the service.

Content-wise, this release will not only include the base game. Sony also confirmed that the Kantaris Deal extra mission stages will be part of the package. The main campaign follows Richard Miller as he tries to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a newly elected president in a foreign country. The extra mission stays in the same region but shifts focus to a separate case involving illegal weapons manufacturing.

So yeah, this is not a massive modern remake or anything like that. But as a Classic release with gyro support, it is a smart way to bring back a game that depended heavily on physical arcade-style controls. If the gyro aiming feels responsive, Time Crisis could be a fun weekend throwback for PS5 and PS4 players who miss that arcade shooter energy.
