Trails fans, the Crossbell arc is getting another chance to ruin your sleep schedule.
NIS America has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 this fall. Both titles will be sold separately as digital releases, while players who prefer something on the shelf can grab them together in a bundled physical collection.
For longtime JRPG fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is pretty good timing. The Trails series has always been one of those “if you know, you know” franchises — massive story payoff, tons of political drama, and character writing that rewards players who actually pay attention. But because its releases have been scattered across PSP, Vita, PS4, Switch, and PC over the years, jumping in has not always been clean. These new versions make the Crossbell games easier to recommend to anyone picking up a PS5 or planning to move into Nintendo’s Switch 2 ecosystem.
The upgraded releases will include improved performance, 4K resolution, and upscaled textures. The Switch 2 editions will also support mouse controls, which is a nice extra for players who like menu-heavy RPGs to feel a bit more PC-like. No Malaysian pricing has been announced yet, so local players will have to wait for eShop, PS Store, and retailer listings.
If you are new to this arc, Trails from Zero follows Lloyd Bannings, who returns to Crossbell after three years away. He joins the Crossbell Police Department hoping to honour his late brother’s path, but instead of landing in a normal police unit, he ends up in the Special Support Section — basically the team that handles the weird jobs nobody else wants to touch.
That squad is where the charm kicks in. Lloyd works alongside Elie MacDowell, the mayor’s granddaughter; Randy Orlando, a former soldier with a flirt-heavy personality; and Tio Plato, a young tech prodigy. On paper, it sounds like standard JRPG party setup. In practice, Trails uses these characters to explore Crossbell as a city stuck between bigger powers, which is why fans rate this arc so highly.
Historically, Trails from Zero first launched for PSP in Japan in September 2010, followed by a PS Vita Evolution version in October 2012. It later came to PS4 in Japan in April 2020, before finally reaching Western players on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in September 2022.
Trails to Azure continues the story a few months later. Crossbell appears to be enjoying a brief period of calm, and the Special Support Section has gained serious public recognition after its earlier heroics. Of course, this is Trails, so peace does not last long. New groups with hidden agendas begin moving, while the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard increase pressure on Crossbell from both sides.
Azure originally launched for PSP in September 2011, with a Vita Evolution version arriving in June 2014. It was later released on PS4 in Japan in May 2020, then came to PS4, Switch, and PC in the West in March 2023.
This also lines up with a bigger Trails push. Nihon Falcom and GungHo Online Entertainment are releasing Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, a remake of Trails in the Sky SC, for PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam on September 17. That follows Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, which launched worldwide in September 2025 for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC.
Basically, if you have been waiting for a clean way to get into Trails, the backlog is becoming less scary. Still huge, yes — but at least now the key entries are landing on modern platforms.
