Walking Home with You Anime Sets April 2027 Premiere With New Visual

The Walking Home with You anime has taken its next small but important step: the series now has an April 2027 premiere window and a newly revealed visual.

That is still quite a long walk away, bro, but for fans of soft coming-of-age rom-coms, this is the kind of early announcement worth bookmarking. As of the latest update, though, the production side is still being kept quiet. No studio, staff, or cast details have been announced yet, so don’t start fancasting your favourite seiyuu lineup too hard just yet.

What is Walking Home with You about?

The anime is based on the manga by Mai Matsuda, who both writes and illustrates the series. The manga has been running in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine since 2023.

English publisher Omoi describes the story as a fresh coming-of-age romantic comedy centred around taking the long way home. The setup follows Shun, a former middle school soccer standout whose dream is derailed by injury. By the time he reaches high school, he is stuck in that familiar post-burnout limbo: no big passion, no clear goal, just drifting through the days.

Then he meets Naoki, an eccentric upperclassman who pulls him into her unofficial “Hyper-Epic Heading Home Club.” It is basically a one-member club dedicated to making the journey home feel like an adventure — detours, imagined quests, hidden finds, random discoveries, the whole whimsical package.

The heart of the story seems to be whether those strange little walks can help Shun find colour in everyday life again. Very slice-of-life, very healing rom-com energy.

New visual, but still many blanks

Alongside the April 2027 premiere timing, a new visual for the anime was revealed. A commemorative illustration from Matsuda was also shown, marking the announcement.

For now, that is the main confirmed update. The original report does not list any voice cast, animation studio, director, music staff, broadcast platform, or streaming information.

That means this announcement is more of a “yes, the anime is moving forward” signal than a full production reveal. Expect the bigger details to roll out later, especially once the 2027 anime calendar starts looking clearer.

Why Malaysia and SEA anime fans should keep an eye on it

Analysis / inference: For Malaysia and SEA viewers, this matters less as a launch update and more as an early radar ping for anyone who enjoys low-stakes, character-driven anime. The source does not mention Malaysia availability, SEA streaming, cinema plans, or regional release details, so we should not assume anything there.

But genre-wise, Walking Home with You sits in a lane that tends to travel well with anime fans here: soft romance, emotional recovery, school-life awkwardness, and that comforting “nothing huge happens, but somehow it hits” vibe. If you’re the kind of viewer who enjoys stories about people slowly finding themselves again, this one sounds macam it could be a nice slow-burn pick.

The sports injury angle also gives the series a bit more emotional texture than a standard meet-cute. Shun is not just bored — he has lost something that used to define him. Naoki’s chaotic little club sounds silly on paper, but that silliness could become the point: sometimes the route home is where you start feeling alive again.

Still, it is early days. With an April 2027 premiere window and no studio or cast attached publicly yet, the best move is to keep expectations warm but controlled. The premise has charm. Now we wait to see who is animating it, who is voicing Shun and Naoki, and whether the adaptation can capture that gentle manga magic without making it feel too sleepy.
