Witch Hat Atelier is quietly becoming one of Spring 2026’s must-watch fantasy anime, and now the series is adding more firepower to its voice cast.

The official anime staff announced on X that Katsuyuki Konishi and Toshiki Kumagai are joining the TV anime adaptation of Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier manga. Their characters will appear in episode 6, which is set to air next Monday after the announcement.

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans following the weekly simulcast, this is a nice little mid-season bump. Witch Hat Atelier already has the kind of worldbuilding that rewards weekly discussion — the magic system, the art direction, the whole “learning forbidden knowledge” vibe — so new character introductions can easily shift the energy of the story.

The anime premiered in Japan on April 6 via Tokyo MX and other channels. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs, and an English dub is also available. That matters for our side of the world because it keeps the show accessible without needing to wait months for a later release. If you are the type who watches seasonal anime legally while scrolling fan theories after each episode, this is one to keep on your list.

Behind the scenes, Witch Hat Atelier has a pretty stacked creative team too. Ayumu Watanabe, known for Ace Attorney and Doraemon films, is directing the anime at BUG FILMS. Hiroaki Kojima, who worked as animation producer on Komi Can’t Communicate, is producing the series. Character designs are handled by Kairi Unabara of Pokémon Evolutions, who is also serving as chief animation director.

The music side is also worth paying attention to. Yuka Kitamura, whose game credits include Elden Ring, is composing the score. That is a strong fit for a fantasy series where atmosphere is everything. The opening theme is Kaze no Anthem feat. suis from yorushika by Eve and suis, while Nakamura Hak performs the ending theme, Tada Utsukushii no Noroi.

If you are new to the franchise, Witch Hat Atelier began as a manga in Kodansha’s Morning two magazine back in July 2016. Kodansha released volume 16 in Japan on April 23, while Kodansha USA started publishing the English edition in April 2019.

The manga’s reputation is not just hype either. It has been nominated at major comic and manga awards, including the Angoulême International Comics Festival and the Manga Taisho awards. It also ranked highly in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook for male readers, appeared on YALSA’s 2020 list of top graphic novels for teens, and won Best Manga at the Harvey Awards in both 2020 and 2025.

With 7 million copies in circulation worldwide, Witch Hat Atelier already has a serious fanbase before the anime even finishes its run. Episode 6 now looks like another key stop for viewers who want to see how the adaptation expands its magical world.
