Witch Hat Atelier is keeping the Spring 2026 anime conversation very healthy, and now fans have a fresh visual to dissect.

Following the broadcast of Episode 6 in Japan, the anime revealed its second story visual, this time highlighting scenes connected to the latest episode. The first story visual focused on the dragon fight, so this new artwork feels like another checkpoint for the adaptation rather than just a random promo drop.

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, this is the kind of series worth paying attention to even if you usually wait until a season ends before starting. Witch Hat Atelier has been voted the top non-sequel anime every week of Spring 2026 so far, which is a big deal in a season where new shows usually have to fight hard for attention against established franchises and returning favourites.

The anime is being produced by BUG FILMS, the studio behind Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Crunchyroll is streaming the series globally, which makes it easier for viewers in our region to follow the weekly hype legally instead of waiting for delayed access or social media clips to spoil everything first.

Why the buzz makes sense

Witch Hat Atelier, also known as Tongari Boshi no Atelier, is based on the manga by Kamome Shirahama. The series has been running in Kodansha's Morning Two magazine since July 2016, with 16 volumes released as of April 2026. It also has a spin-off, Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen, which launched in November 2019.

This is not some tiny niche title either. The franchise has passed 7 million copies in circulation and picked up major recognition in 2020, winning the Harvey Award for Best Manga and the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material - Asia. Basically, manga readers have known for years that this one has premium fantasy vibes.

The story follows Coco, a girl who dreams of becoming a witch in a world where magic and dragons are part of everyday life. The problem? Everyone believes witches are born with magic, not trained into it, and Coco was not born with that gift. Her life changes after she meets Qifrey, a travelling magician, and discovers that the rules she grew up believing may not be the full truth.

That setup is exactly why the anime has been clicking with fantasy fans. It is not just "magic school but cute" energy. There is a proper sense of wonder, discovery, and danger behind Coco's journey, which gives the series more weight than a simple comfort-watch fantasy.

The team behind the adaptation

The anime is directed by Ayumu Watanabe, with Jun Shinohara serving as assistant director. Hiroshi Seko is handling series composition, while Kairi Unabara is credited for character design and chief animation direction. The wider staff also includes Ryota Goto as art director, Naomi Nakano on color design, Tadashi Kitaoka as director of photography, and Yuka Kitamura on music.

For SEA viewers who enjoy beautifully crafted fantasy anime, Witch Hat Atelier feels like one of those shows that could keep growing through word of mouth. If the adaptation continues landing its key moments, expect more cosplay, fan art, and convention chatter around Coco and Qifrey as the season goes on.
