The Witch Hat Atelier anime has revealed its third story visual, and this one puts the focus on Qifrey’s apprentices together with the Knights Moralis.
For fans keeping up weekly, this is another nice bit of world-building marketing from the production team. The first story visual was tied to the dragon encounter from episode 4, while the second one highlighted scenes from episode 6. Now that the anime is eight episodes in, the new visual feels like a reminder that the series is moving deeper into its bigger magical systems, not just Coco’s personal journey.
That matters because Witch Hat Atelier is not the kind of fantasy anime that survives on flashy spells alone. The whole appeal is in how carefully its world works — the rules of magic, the politics around who gets to use it, and the danger when those rules are broken. Bringing in the Knights Moralis visually signals that the story is widening beyond the atelier itself.
For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, the good news is accessibility. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix, which makes it much easier to follow legally without hunting around random uploads. Netflix availability especially helps here, since plenty of casual anime viewers in Malaysia already use it as their default anime app alongside Crunchyroll.
Staff behind the anime
The series is directed by Ayumu Watanabe, with Jun Shinohara as assistant director. Hiroshi Seko handles series composition, while Kairi Unabara serves as character designer and chief animation director.
The production also includes Ryota Goto as art director, Naomi Nakano on color design, Tadashi Kitaoka as director of photography, and Yuka Kitamura composing the music. Animation production is by BUG FILMS.
That staff line-up is important because Witch Hat Atelier is a very visual manga. Kamome Shirahama’s artwork is famous for its intricate linework and fairytale-like paneling, so the anime has a big challenge: making the world feel magical without losing the delicate, hand-crafted vibe fans love.

- Kurumi Haruki as Tetia
- Hika Tsukishiro as Richeh

What is Witch Hat Atelier about?
Witch Hat Atelier, also known as Tongari Boshi no Atelier, is based on the manga by Kamome Shirahama. The series has been running in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine since July 2016, with Kodansha USA publishing the English release.
The story follows Coco, a girl who dreams of becoming a witch in a world where magic, spells, and dragons are treated as normal parts of life. The problem? Everyone believes witches are born with magic, and Coco was not. Her life changes after she meets the travelling magician Qifrey and discovers that the truth about magic may be very different from what society has always told her.
If you are into fantasy anime with actual rules, mystery, and gorgeous atmosphere, this is one to keep on your watchlist. Not every show needs to scream for attention; sometimes the best ones quietly build a world you want to live in.
