The upcoming World Is Dancing TV anime is starting to look like one of Summer 2026’s more interesting wildcard picks, especially if you’re tired of the usual isekai stack every season.

The anime adaptation of Kazuto Mihara’s historical manga has revealed a new batch of cast members, a key visual, its opening theme, and the first proper promotional video. The series is currently set to premiere in Japan on July 2 at 10:00 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX and KBS Kyoto, before airing on BS Asahi, Sun TV, and other stations.

For Malaysian fans, that timing works out to around 9:00 p.m. Malaysia time, though the important question is still streaming. No SEA platform announcement was included in this update, so we’ll need to wait and see whether it lands on the usual services for our region.

New Cast Confirmed

The latest cast reveal adds some pretty recognisable names to the project:

  • Takahiro Sakurai as Ashikaga Yoshimitsu
  • Nobuo Tobita as Nijou Yoshimoto
  • Mamiko Noto as Nariko
  • Inori Minase as Chiharu
  • Hazuki Seto as Satsuki

That is not a small lineup. Sakurai is a veteran voice many anime fans will know from Demon Slayer, while Inori Minase’s name alone will catch attention from Re:Zero watchers. Mamiko Noto being here also adds that extra “okay, they’re taking this seriously” feeling.

Opening Theme By Macaroni Empitsu

Rock band Macaroni Empitsu will perform the opening theme, titled “Shuushou.” The song is previewed in the first PV, giving fans an early feel for the anime’s mood.

This is actually the part that could help the show stand out. Historical anime can sometimes feel a bit berat if the presentation is too dry, but a strong opening track and stylish PV can make a huge difference. If the anime leans into movement, performance, and period drama energy, this could be one of those shows that quietly builds a loyal fanbase.

Staff Behind The Anime

Toshimasa Kuroyanagi, known for Fune wo Amu, is directing the series at Cypic. Sawako Kawamitsu is in charge of series composition and script, while Keigo Sasaki handles character designs. Music composition is by Daisuke Shinoda, whose credits include Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II.

That staff mix suggests the production is aiming for something more character-driven rather than just spectacle. For a historical manga adaptation, that’s probably the right call. The hook needs to come from the personalities, politics, and atmosphere — not just pretty costumes and period backdrops.

What Is World Is Dancing?

World Is Dancing began serialization in Morning magazine in March 2021. The manga wrapped with its sixth and final volume in November 2022, so the anime has a complete source to work from. That’s good news for viewers who prefer adaptations that can actually plan their story properly instead of stopping halfway with a “go read the manga” ending.

Kodansha USA has also released all six volumes digitally in English, with publication running from August 2023 to August 2024. So if the PV catches your eye, there’s already a way to check out the manga before the anime drops.

For SEA anime fans, World Is Dancing is worth keeping on the radar because it offers something different from the usual seasonal comfort picks. Historical drama isn’t always the loudest genre in the room, but when it hits, it really hits — especially with a strong cast and complete source material behind it.
