Yaiba fans, mark the date: Yaiba: Samurai Legend is officially coming back for Season 2 on January 9, 2027.
The update came through the anime’s official website, which also revealed a fresh visual for the new season. This next run will cover the Kaguya Arc, giving the modern anime adaptation another major chapter from Gōshō Aoyama’s classic manga to work through.
For those who somehow missed the connection, yes — this is the same Gōshō Aoyama best known as the creator of Detective Conan. That makes Yaiba: Samurai Legend more than just another sword-fighting shonen revival. It is also part of the wider Aoyama legacy, and Season 1 was even broadcast in Japan right before Detective Conan as part of the “Gōshō Aoyama Hour” block.
When Season 2 airs in Japan
Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on January 9, 2027. Like the first season, it will air on YTV, NTV, and affiliated Japanese networks every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. JST.
That Japanese broadcast detail matters because it confirms the show is keeping the same strong TV slot it had during Season 1. The first season began airing in April 2025, with its second cour following in June 2025.
Wit Studio team returns
The production side is also looking stable. Takahiro Hasui is back as director at Wit Studio, with Studio Kurm again credited for animation cooperation.
Several major staff members are returning as well:
- Tōko Machida returns for series scripts
- Yoshimichi Kameda returns as character designer and chief animation director
- Takeshi Maenami returns as sub-character designer and main animator
- Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa return for the music
- Haru Yamada is sound director
- Maiko Okada returns as animation producer
One newly listed staff credit is Yūdai Oda of Follum as director of photography.
That continuity is a good sign for viewers who liked the first season’s energy. With a battle-heavy setup involving legendary blades, ancient powers, and very shonen rival energy, keeping the core creative team intact should help Season 2 feel like a proper continuation instead of a soft reset.
What Yaiba is about
Viz Media describes the story as following Yaiba, who goes to school with Sayaka and ends up encountering Takeshi Onimaru, a skilled kendo fighter. Their rivalry escalates as two ancient weapons awaken: the Fujinken, known as the Wind God’s Sword, and the Raijinken, the Thunder God’s Sword.
Basically: classic old-school shonen chaos, but with swords, supernatural power-ups, and that late-80s manga flavour.
The original Yaiba manga began in Weekly Shonen Sunday in September 1988 and ended in December 1993, finishing with 24 compiled volumes. Before this new adaptation, the series also had a 52-episode anime that ran from April 1993 to April 1994.
Viz Media has licensed the anime and is also releasing the manga in English. The anime streams on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand, and on Hulu in the United States. No Malaysia or SEA streaming details were included in the source material.
Why this matters for Malaysia/SEA readers (analysis)
If you are watching from Malaysia or elsewhere in SEA, the biggest takeaway is simple: the Japanese premiere date is now locked, but regional streaming access is still unclear from the available info.
That means this is one to keep on the radar, especially if you enjoy older shonen properties getting polished modern adaptations. With Wit Studio returning and the Kaguya Arc now confirmed, Season 2 has a clear runway — now we just wait to see where viewers in our region can officially watch it.
