If you're still locked into Mission: Yozakura Family season 2, there's a new cast addition coming in very soon.

The anime's staff has announced that Yume Miyamoto is joining the second season as Jigokumimi no Usa, a reporter working for the underground gossip magazine Spyday. According to the series info shared for the reveal, Usa has exceptional hearing and communication skills, and uses those talents to pull information out of targets for the magazine.

Fans will not need to wait long either. The character is scheduled to make their debut in episode 30, which airs in Japan on April 26.

For viewers in Malaysia and the rest of SEA, this is the kind of weekly cast update that matters if you're following the show close, because Yozakura is one of those action-comedy series that loves throwing in eccentric new characters to shake up the spy-family chaos. A role tied to an underground publication also sounds like the kind of setup that can create messy, funny, or dangerous problems for Taiyou and the Yozakura household, so this is not just a random background addition.

The production side also shared a little extra for fans this week. NBC Universal has started streaming the anime's creditless opening and ending sequences. The opening song is "What's 'KAZOKU'" by Sakurazaka46, while the ending theme is "Shalala" by Pilaf Alien. If you're the type who likes checking OP and ED visuals properly without the text overlays, this is a nice bonus.

Season 2 itself premiered on April 12 on MBS, TBS, and 26 affiliated channels in the Nichigo Sunday slot at 5:00 p.m. JST, which is 4:00 p.m. in Malaysia and Singapore. In the United States, Hulu is streaming the new season.

As for the staff, there has been a slight shake-up at the top. Mirai Minato is now serving as chief director at SILVER LINK, while still overseeing the series scripts. Takahiro Nakatsugawa, who previously worked on the first season as a storyboard artist and episode director, is directing season 2. Returning names also include Mizuki Takahashi on character designs, Koji Fujimoto on music, and Toru Kanegae as sound director.

If you somehow still have not checked this series out, the setup is peak shonen spy nonsense in a good way. The story follows Taiyou Asano, a socially withdrawn high schooler who has struggled to connect with people after his family died in a car accident. The one person he can still talk to is his childhood friend Mutsumi Yozakura, who just happens to be the head of the world's strongest spy family. Things spiral fast when Taiyou ends up needing to marry into the family to survive, kicking off his life as a new member of the Yozakura household.

The original manga by Hitsuji Gondaira launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2019 and finished serialization in January 2025. Its 29th and final volume was published in March 2025. Outside Japan, Viz Media released the manga digitally in English from the start, later followed by digital volumes in December 2020 and physical releases beginning in October 2022. MANGA Plus also made the series available digitally in English. The franchise has expanded beyond manga too, with several novels already out.

For Malaysian anime fans, this update is a simple one, but still worth watching. A new voice, a suspicious gossip-mag reporter, and an episode debut happening this soon usually means the next stretch of Mission: Yozakura Family is about to get more chaotic.
