Yuu Yoshinaga’s New Romance Manga Starts in Betsucomi This June

Yuu Yoshinaga is already lining up her next manga, and romance fans should keep an eye on this one.

Shogakukan’s Betsucomi magazine revealed in its June issue that Yoshinaga will launch a brand-new series titled Saredo, Futari wa Kusare En in the magazine’s next issue, which goes on sale June 12. The title roughly translates to “Even So, We Have an Undesirable, Yet Inseparable Love” — which already sounds like the kind of messy emotional setup shoujo readers love to overanalyse in group chats.

The manga centres on Muku Mochigi and Kyō Yakumo, two childhood friends who can’t seem to escape each other. They argue, clash, and constantly get on each other’s nerves, but somehow remain tied together anyway. As the pair enter high school, that familiar but awkward bond starts shifting into something neither of them expected.

Basically: childhood friends, constant bickering, high school changes, and feelings that probably arrive at the worst possible time. Classic setup, but when done well, this type of romance can hit hard — especially for readers who enjoy slow-burn tension instead of instant confession drama.

Yoshinaga is best known for Diary of a Female Lead: Shujinkou Nikki, which also ran in Betsucomi. That series began in August 2021 and wrapped up its main story in May 2025. Shogakukan released the manga’s 12th and final compiled volume on January 26.

For English-reading fans in Malaysia and SEA, the important bit is that Seven Seas Entertainment licensed Diary of a Female Lead and has been releasing it in English, with the fifth volume shipped on January 13. That doesn’t automatically mean Saredo, Futari wa Kusare En will get an English release, of course, but Yoshinaga already having an overseas publisher connection makes this new series worth tracking.

Diary of a Female Lead also returned briefly for a short “Special Episode” serialization in Betsucomi’s August issue last July, so Yoshinaga hasn’t been away from the magazine for long. This new launch feels like a proper next step after closing out a long-running title.

For Malaysian manga readers, especially those who buy English volumes through Kinokuniya, Shopee import sellers, or digital platforms, this is one of those early announcements to bookmark first and worry about availability later. If the new manga builds enough buzz in Japan, an English license could follow down the line.

And honestly, Betsucomi-style romance still has a strong lane here. Not everything needs to be a giant fantasy anime adaptation or action-heavy shounen. Sometimes you just want two emotionally stubborn teens arguing like enemies while everyone else can see the obvious romance coming from a mile away.

Saredo, Futari wa Kusare En begins serialization in Betsucomi on June 12.
