Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 Makes It Easier for Lapsed Players to Catch Up

HoYoverse is tweaking Zenless Zone Zero’s returning player system when Version 2.8 drops, which is good news if you fell off New Eridu for a few patches and suddenly feel like logging back in.

The game’s Back in Business system is designed to reward players who have been inactive for a while, giving them extra resources to soften the comeback grind. In Version 2.8, HoYoverse is adjusting how that works, including adding new parts to the system and increasing some rewards for players who have been away for over 42 days.

For Malaysian and SEA players, this is actually pretty useful. ZZZ is one of those games where missing a version can feel brutal, especially if you are juggling other gacha games, work, studies, or just waiting for a favourite Agent banner. A better returner system means you can take a break without feeling completely punished when you come back.

Who Qualifies for Back in Business?

The basic requirements are staying the same. To activate the Zenless Zone Zero returning player system, you need to have reached:

  • Inter-Knot Level 20
  • Main Story Chapter 1 – Intermission

After that, the inactivity requirement depends on whether this is your first time triggering Back in Business.

If it is your first time, you only need to be away from the game for 14 days. If you have already used the system before, you must be inactive for at least 42 days before it activates again. That is roughly the length of skipping a full version cycle, so it feels aimed at players who truly missed a chunk of content rather than someone who just forgot to log in for a week.

Once activated, the event lasts for 16 days. During that period, returning players get access to several comeback bonuses, including 100 Polychromes, Business Guide, Polychrome Supply, Reset Check-in, and Upgrade Boost.

What Rewards Are Included?

The Reset Check-in is a simple login reward track. If you return and check in for three days within the 16-day window, you can get 320 Polychromes and 20 Prepaid Power Cards.

The Polychrome Supply bonus increases rewards from selected events, giving players 100% more than usual for eligible content. That is the kind of boost that matters if you are trying to rebuild your pull stash before the next banner.

There is also Upgrade Boost, which gives double drops from certain upgrade activities. The limits are:

  • Expert Challenges: 3 times
  • Disc Drives: 5 times
  • Combat Simulation: 20 times

For casual SEA players, this is probably the most practical part. Farming materials and Disc Drives can be the wall that stops you from properly building a new Agent, so double drops help reduce that “wah, so much stamina needed” feeling.

The updated Business Guide will also include specific missions, though HoYoverse has not shared examples yet. Based on how these systems usually work, expect it to point returning players toward catch-up objectives and key activities.

When Is Zenless Zone Zero 2.8 Coming?

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.8 arrives on May 6, 2026. The game is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices. HoYoverse also plans to bring the game to Steam around Version 3.0, which could make it easier for more PC players in Malaysia and SEA to jump in without relying on separate launchers.

Overall, this is not a flashy headline update, but it is a smart quality-of-life change. Gacha games live and die by how painful it feels to return after burnout. If ZZZ can make that comeback smoother, more players may actually give New Eridu another shot instead of uninstalling for good.
