2026 game release calendar is already stacked, with GTA 6 leading a huge year

If your backlog is already embarrassing, 2026 is not here to help, bro.

A fresh release calendar roundup from Destructoid shows next year is filling up fast, and the headline grabber is obvious: Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. But that is just one part of a seriously packed slate. Across the year, we are looking at big sequels, remasters, Switch 2 editions, anime tie-ins, and a bunch of heavy hitters that could easily eat up your annual gaming budget.

For Malaysian and wider SEA players, this matters because 2026 is already looking like one of those years where you cannot just buy everything day one. Between full-price console releases, possible Switch 2 hype, and the usual collector's edition temptation, a proper wishlist strategy is going to save lives, or at least save your wallet.

Early 2026 is already busy

The first few months are loaded. January includes Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on January 15, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on January 22, plus The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin on January 28 for PC, PS5, iOS, and Android.

That last one is worth watching in SEA especially, since anime-based games and cross-platform releases usually get plenty of traction here. Same story with SEGA Football Club Champions 2026 arriving on January 22 across PC, PlayStation, iOS, and Android. Football games always have a lane in this region, even when they are not the biggest global headline.

February does not chill either. Some of the bigger names listed include Deus Ex Remastered, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, My Hero Academia: All's Justice, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, and God of War: Sons of Sparta. The biggest late-February date is Resident Evil Requiem on February 27, joined by Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition on the same day.

Capcom horror still hits hard with Malaysian players, so that end-of-February stretch looks very dangerous for anyone who loves survival horror and bad financial decisions.

March to May is basically non-stop

March keeps the pressure on with Marathon and Pokémon Pokopia on March 5, Coffee Talk Tokyo also on March 5, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection on March 13, Crimson Desert on March 19, and Life is Strange: Reunion on March 26.

April has some serious names too: Pokémon Champions on April 8, Hades 2 on April 14, Pragmata on April 17, Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred on April 28, and SAROS plus Invincible VS on April 30.

Then May rolls in with Forza Horizon 6 on May 19, Lego Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight on May 22, and 007 First Light on May 27. That is a proper blockbuster run already, and we are not even halfway through the year.

Switch 2 is everywhere in this list

One clear trend from the calendar is how often Switch 2 shows up. A lot of games are either launching on Nintendo's new platform or getting upgraded editions, including Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Hollow Knight, Super Bomberman Collection, Core Keeper, Pokémon Pokopia, Pragmata, and more.

For gamers in Malaysia, that means 2026 could become a major decision year: stick with your current setup, upgrade to Switch 2, or spread your spending across PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo. No joke, this is the kind of year where platform choice matters.

Big finish, plus plenty still unconfirmed

The back half of the year still has major releases like Splatoon Raiders in July, Marvel TOKON: Fighting Souls in August, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 in August, Phantom Blade Zero in September, and then GTA 6 in November.

Interestingly, October and December are still empty for now on the calendar, which probably just means more announcements are coming later. Destructoid also highlighted several notable 2026 games without exact dates yet, including Marvel's Wolverine for fall 2026, alongside titles like Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Control: Resonant.

So yeah, 2026 is already looking cracked. If even half of these dates hold, Malaysian gamers are going to be juggling giant AAA releases, anime favourites, and Switch 2 ports all year long.

Start the wishlist early, bro.
