iOS 27 Could Make the iPhone Camera App Way More Customisable

Apple may be preparing one of the biggest iPhone Camera app changes in years, and honestly, this one could matter a lot for Malaysian creators, event-goers and casual shooters.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 27 could bring a major Camera app overhaul focused on customisation, more control and deeper AI features. Apple is expected to show off iOS 27 at WWDC 2026, alongside broader performance improvements and AI updates.

A more flexible Camera app

The headline change is customisation. Instead of everyone using the same fixed Apple camera layout, iPhone users may be able to adjust parts of the interface based on how they actually shoot.

Bloomberg reports that the default Camera app will still look familiar, so this should not become some confusing pro-only mess. But users may be able to swap individual controls through a new “Add Widgets” tray. These widgets could include settings like resolution, flash and Live Photos, plus more advanced tools for exposure, depth-of-field and Apple’s Photographic Styles.

That is a pretty useful shift. Right now, the iPhone camera is excellent, but some settings can feel buried or too Apple-knows-best. For Malaysian users filming TikToks at food spots, shooting cosplay at conventions, recording campus events or capturing esports watch parties, faster access to the controls you actually use could save a lot of fiddling.

Touch controls may get easier

Apple already has the Camera Control button on newer iPhones, but not everyone loves using a physical button for every adjustment. The reported iOS 27 redesign seems to bring more of that control back to the touchscreen.

The Camera app may also gain new grid and level tools while shooting. That sounds small, but if you have ever tried to frame a clean booth shot at Comic Fiesta, take flat-lay gadget photos for Carousell, or record a handheld product clip without looking senget, you know this is the kind of quality-of-life feature that actually helps.

Apple is also reportedly moving the button that shows all available controls. Instead of sitting at the top right, it may shift closer to the shutter button, making it easier to reach while shooting.

Visual Intelligence could move into Camera

AI is expected to play a bigger role too. Bloomberg says Apple may bring Visual Intelligence directly into the Camera app through a new Siri mode, instead of keeping it tied to a separate Camera Control flow.

That could make camera-based AI features easier to access, including image search and text translation. For SEA users, translation is the interesting bit. Imagine pointing your iPhone at Japanese merch text, a Korean cafe menu, a Chinese event poster or travel signage and getting help without jumping between apps. If Apple makes that smoother, it becomes more than just an AI demo.

AI-powered photo editing tools are reportedly planned as well, though the exact details are still unclear.

Siri and other iOS apps may change too

The report also says Siri is getting a wider redesign. Its glowing animation may move from the edge of the iPhone screen into the Dynamic Island. Apple may also replace Spotlight Search with a new “Search or Ask” interface that can show card-style results, open a chat with Siri, pull from the web and support voice input.

Past Siri conversations may also be available in a standalone Siri app, based on previous reporting.

Other iOS 27 changes sound smaller: Safari could get a new start page, Weather may show more data and Image Playground may become simpler to use.

WWDC 2026 starts on June 8, so expect more leaks before Apple makes anything official. Still, if this report is accurate, iOS 27’s Camera update could be one of the more practical upgrades — especially for people in Malaysia and SEA who use their iPhone as their main camera for content, events, travel and everyday social posting.
