JEYI’s flat ArcherX adapter could be the fix for GPUs blocking your extra SSD slot

If you have ever tried adding more SSD storage to a gaming PC and realised your giant graphics card is basically sitting on top of everything, JEYI’s new ArcherX adapter looks like a pretty clever fix.

The Chinese accessories brand has revealed a flat PCIe-to-M.2 adapter that sits flush with the motherboard instead of sticking upward like a normal add-in card. That sounds simple, but for anyone running a thick modern GPU, it solves a very real headache. A lot of newer graphics cards are so chunky that they block nearby PCIe slots, which means even if your board technically has space for expansion, you still cannot use it properly.

ArcherX gets around that by placing the M.2 SSD parallel to the motherboard, more like a built-in M.2 slot. In other words, it does not need extra vertical clearance inside the case. That is the whole selling point here, and honestly, for compact PC builds, it makes a lot of sense.

JEYI is offering the adapter in two versions, a PCIe 4.0 x1 model and a PCIe 4.0 x4 model. Both also support PCIe 3.0 backwards compatibility, so older systems are not left out. The company also teased that a PCIe 5.0 version is on the way, though there is no timing yet.

The physical design is a bit unusual. JEYI says the card is made by joining two PCBs together. One side handles the PCIe connector, while the other holds the M.2 slot itself. There is also a long, slim extension with a screw mount to secure a full-size 2280 SSD. Even though it looks very thin in pictures, JEYI claims the structure is rigid.

For Malaysian and wider SEA PC builders, this is the kind of niche accessory that could actually be useful, especially if you are running a big GPU in a mid-tower case and your motherboard’s onboard M.2 slots are already filled. That is a pretty common situation now. High-capacity NVMe drives are cheaper than they used to be, games are getting absurdly large, and not everyone wants to replace a perfectly good motherboard just to get another SSD slot.

It also matters for budget-conscious upgraders here. A lot of local builders mix older AM4 or Intel platforms with newer, oversized graphics cards. In that kind of setup, expansion space can get messy very fast. A flat adapter like this could be an easier workaround than moving to a new board or full platform upgrade.

That said, there are still some obvious questions. The adapter is designed for tight spaces, but putting an SSD close to a large GPU may still make some builders pause, especially if thermals are already rough inside the case. Tom’s Hardware also noted that there is no price or release date yet, so right now this is more of a promising reveal than a product you can actually order.

Still, the expected pricing should be reasonable if JEYI follows its usual budget-friendly approach. The report suggests it could land somewhere around US$20 to US$30, which would make it a relatively cheap quality-of-life upgrade for PC tinkerers.

This is not the flashiest hardware launch of the week, but it is exactly the kind of small, practical PC modding idea that can make a difference. For gamers in Malaysia and SEA who like squeezing a bit more life out of an existing rig, ArcherX feels like one to watch.
