LA Chargers Turn Their 2026 NFL Schedule Reveal Into A Halo Infinite Mission Select

The Los Angeles Chargers are back doing the most gamer thing an NFL team can do: turning a basic schedule announcement into a full-on video game crossover.

For their latest NFL schedule reveal, the Chargers used Halo Infinite to show off their full 18-week run, which starts in September 2026 and goes through January 2027. Instead of dropping a plain graphic like every normal sports account, the team went into Halo mode, presenting matchups through a custom video built with Halo Infinite’s Forge mode.

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of sports marketing that understands internet culture. You don’t need to be a hardcore NFL fan to enjoy it — if you’ve spent any time in Halo custom games, Forge maps, or just gaming Twitter/X, the whole thing instantly feels more fun than a standard fixture list.

Chargers x Xbox, again

According to GameSpot, the Chargers’ social team worked with Xbox on the video. The reveal starts with a Mission Select-style screen, with each weekly opponent teased through Halo-themed map ideas and custom setups.

One example highlighted is a custom boat created for the Chargers’ Week 13 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Simple joke, easy to understand, and very shareable — which is probably the whole point.

Xbox’s Asha Sharma also reacted to the Chargers’ post on X with three lightning bolt emojis, giving the crossover a nice official nod from the Xbox side.

This is not the Chargers’ first gaming-flavoured schedule reveal either. Last year, the team used Minecraft, another Xbox-owned property, for the same purpose. Before that, in 2024, they went with The Sims 2. So yeah, this team’s social media department clearly has a proper gaming backlog.

Why SEA gamers should care

Sure, NFL is not exactly the biggest sport in Malaysia or Southeast Asia. Most of us are still more likely to talk about football, badminton, Mobile Legends, Valorant, or Dota over mamak. But this kind of crossover matters because it shows how mainstream gaming culture has become.

A few years ago, sports teams using games for announcements might have felt like a gimmick. Now, it feels normal. Minecraft, Halo, The Sims — these are not just games anymore, they’re shared internet languages. Even if you don’t follow the Chargers, you probably understand the joke faster because it’s built inside gaming culture.

For brands, esports teams, and local organisers in Malaysia, there’s a lesson here: fans don’t always want another boring poster. If you’re announcing a tournament, team roster, campus league, creator event, or community meetup, presentation matters. A smart gaming reference can travel much further online than a safe corporate graphic.

Imagine an MPL Malaysia schedule reveal done like a ranked draft lobby, or a local anime convention lineup teased through a visual novel interface. That kind of stuff would slap if done properly.

Madden NFL 27 is also coming

GameSpot also notes that Madden NFL 27 will have plenty of sideline changes to reflect, with nine new head coaches across the league’s 32 teams for the upcoming season.

EA has not officially revealed the game yet, but it is expected to arrive around August. Madden NFL 27 is planned for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.

For Malaysian players, Madden remains more of a niche sports game compared to EA Sports FC or NBA 2K, but the Switch 2 listing is worth watching. If the new Nintendo hardware gets better third-party support, sports titles could become much more attractive for portable play.

Either way, the Chargers have once again proved that a schedule reveal doesn’t have to be boring. Sometimes, just load up Forge and let the social team cook.
