Nintendo Teases More Switch 2 Games As Ocarina Of Time Remake Rumours Heat Up

Nintendo is keeping quiet on the big specifics, but Switch 2 owners may want to keep some budget aside. With rumours swirling around a possible The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that more unannounced Switch 2 games are being prepared.

During Nintendo’s latest shareholder Q&A, translated by Genki_JPN, Furukawa was asked about the release pace for Nintendo Switch 2 software. His answer was basically: yes, Nintendo knows fans want games faster, but modern game development is taking longer than before.

That’s not exactly shocking in 2026. Bigger games need more time, more polish, more QA, and more localisation. But the important part for fans is that Nintendo is not acting like the current announced lineup is the full story.

Furukawa said Nintendo is working on improving its development systems and processes so that more titles can be enjoyed on Switch 2. He also made it clear that the company is preparing a range of new games for the console, whether they are considered major releases or smaller titles.

For Malaysian and SEA Nintendo fans, that matters because Switch 2 adoption here will depend heavily on software momentum. Hardware is never cheap in our region, especially once you factor in local retail pricing, import markups, accessories, cases, microSD storage, and extra controllers. People are more likely to jump in when they know the console has a proper runway of games beyond the launch window.

So, is Ocarina of Time remake happening?

Nintendo has not announced an Ocarina of Time remake. Let’s be clear on that first.

But the rumours have gained more attention recently because a prominent leaker claimed the remake could arrive on Switch 2 this year. That same leak cycle also included a new Star Fox game, which has since been revealed, so naturally Zelda fans are now watching Nintendo extra closely.

Still, one correct detail does not confirm the entire rumour package. For now, Ocarina of Time remake talk remains speculation.

If it does happen, though, it would be massive. Ocarina of Time is not just another Zelda game; it is one of the defining 3D adventures in gaming history. A proper Switch 2 remake could introduce a whole new generation of Malaysian players to Hyrule without the friction of old controls, dated visuals, or needing to dig through legacy platforms.

The big question is what kind of remake fans would accept. A simple HD coat of paint might feel too safe. But if Nintendo changes too much, especially after Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom reshaped what Zelda can be, some fans may worry it stops feeling like Ocarina of Time. That balance is tricky.

Nintendo is not going quiet during GTA 6 season

Another interesting bit from Furukawa’s comments: Nintendo has more titles planned for the second half of the fiscal year beyond what has already been announced. Details will come later.

That is notable because the gaming industry is already bracing for GTA 6 to dominate attention. Some publishers may avoid that window entirely, but Nintendo seems to be signalling that it still has its own plans.

Nintendo also has room to play differently from everyone else. Recent and upcoming releases like Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven show that the company is still willing to bring back weirder, more personality-driven franchises. So the unannounced Switch 2 slate may not only be one giant blockbuster after another.

For SEA players, that could be a good thing. Not everyone buys a Nintendo console just for the biggest franchise names. Party games, cosy games, rhythm games, local multiplayer titles, and family-friendly releases all have strong appeal here, especially in dorms, cafes, and living rooms where Switch has always been easy to share.

Bottom line: Nintendo has confirmed more Switch 2 games are coming, but the Zelda remake remains unconfirmed. Still, if Ocarina of Time really is part of the plan, Nintendo’s next Direct is going to be appointment viewing.
