Samsung Keyboard gets roasted in poll, but plenty of users still stick with it
Samsung Keyboard has plenty of built-in features, but if Android Authority’s latest reader poll is anything to go by, a lot of users are still not happy with the overall typing experience.
In a survey with just under 1,800 votes, sentiment around Samsung’s default keyboard came back pretty rough. Only 17.6% of respondents said Samsung Keyboard is their favourite option. That means the real fanbase looks pretty small, especially for a first-party app that ships on some of the biggest Android phones in the world.
The bigger story is how many users sound frustrated.
According to the poll results, 42.3% of respondents said they “can’t handle it” and have already switched to another Android keyboard. On top of that, 40.1% said they still use Samsung Keyboard but feel either indifferent or straight-up irritated by it. Put together, that is more than four in five respondents who seem unhappy with the app in one way or another.
That is not a great look for such a core Samsung app.
Android Authority notes that Samsung Keyboard has been criticised before, with complaints including weak predictive text and poor swipe typing. Those are the kind of issues that matter a lot more than they sound on paper. A keyboard is one of the few phone apps people use every single day, whether they are replying on WhatsApp, grinding ranked with friends in Discord, posting on X, or searching stuff on the go.
For Malaysia and the wider SEA market, this feels extra relevant. Samsung phones are everywhere here, from more affordable Galaxy A series models to premium flagships, so the default keyboard experience affects a lot of everyday users. If the built-in option feels annoying, that is not some tiny niche complaint, it hits regular messaging, work chats, social posts, and even gaming comms.
What is a bit surprising is that so many people still keep using Samsung Keyboard anyway.
That seems to line up with an earlier Android Authority poll, which found that 60.5% of users do not use Samsung Keyboard in the first place. Even so, this new survey suggests a good number of people who remain on it are not exactly loyal fans. Some may simply prefer to stick with the default setup, while others might be putting up with the flaws because they like certain Samsung-specific features.
At the same time, Android users are not short on alternatives. The report points to Gboard as the standout option, and says readers had previously picked it as the best Android keyboard. The article’s author also said they personally dropped Samsung Keyboard for Gboard after trying several other options, including SwiftKey, Urik, and Heliboard.
So no, Samsung Keyboard is not universally hated. There is still a small group of users who genuinely like it. But the overall message from this poll is pretty clear: Samsung’s default keyboard is not winning over most readers, and a lot of them either left already or are only tolerating it.
For Galaxy users in Malaysia, the takeaway is simple. If your typing feels off, your autocorrect keeps sabotaging you, or swipe input is making you rage, you are definitely not alone, bro. There are other keyboard apps worth trying, and a lot of users clearly think the switch is worth it.
