Steve Jobs $1 Innovation Coin Is Now On Sale From US Mint

Apple collectors, this one is niche but pretty cool: the US Mint has started selling its new US$1 Innovation coin featuring Steve Jobs, the late Apple co-founder.

The coin goes on sale from May 12 at 12PM Eastern time through the US Mint. It is part of the American Innovation $1 Coin Program, which has been running since 2018 to spotlight major American ideas, inventions and the people behind them.

For Apple fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is not exactly everyday pocket change. It is more of a collector’s item — the kind of thing hardcore Apple fans, tech history nerds or people who grew up during the iPod/iPhone era might want to keep sealed rather than spend.

What the Steve Jobs coin looks like

The Steve Jobs design shows him as a younger man, sitting cross-legged with a California landscape behind him. The background includes rolling hills and oak trees, tying the artwork back to the environment that shaped Apple’s early identity.

According to the US Mint, the design is meant to capture Jobs in a reflective moment, connecting his surroundings with his push to make complicated technology feel simpler and more natural.

The reverse side includes Jobs’ name alongside the phrase “Make something wonderful.” That line feels very on-brand for Apple’s whole mythology: design, simplicity, creativity and a bit of Silicon Valley magic.

On the other side, the coin carries a profile of the Statue of Liberty. There is also a Liberty Bell marked with “250,” a nod to the United States’ 250th anniversary. The coin edge includes the mint mark and minting year.

Pricing and options

The Steve Jobs $1 coin is being sold in two main formats:

  • 25-coin rolls for US$61, which works out to US$2.44 per coin
  • 100-coin bags for US$154.50, or US$1.55 per coin

For Malaysian readers, that is roughly around RM285 for a roll and about RM720 for a 100-coin bag before shipping, tax, card fees and exchange-rate changes. So yeah, not cheap for a “US$1 coin” once you factor in collector pricing and getting it here.

Buyers can choose between coins minted in Philadelphia or Denver at launch. A California-minted version is expected to arrive later in 2026.

Why SEA Apple fans may care

This is not a gaming gadget or a new MacBook, but it sits in that same tech culture zone. Steve Jobs is still one of the most recognisable names in consumer tech, and Apple products have had a massive impact across Malaysia and Southeast Asia — from iPhones becoming the default “premium phone” flex, to MacBooks being everywhere in creative, startup and content creator circles.

If you collect Apple memorabilia, this is a more official piece than random merch or third-party tribute items. The US Mint angle gives it a bit more weight, especially because the design is tied to the American Innovation series rather than just being a novelty souvenir.

That said, casual buyers should think twice. The coin’s face value is US$1, but the selling price is much higher because it is packaged as a collectible. Once you add international delivery costs, it becomes something for serious collectors rather than a casual impulse buy.

Still, for the Apple faithful, this is a neat tribute to the guy whose work shaped the phone, laptop and app ecosystem most of us use every day.
