Windrose Reportedly Tops April Game Sales, Beating Crimson Desert With 1.7 Million Copies
April was not exactly a quiet month for games, but the biggest surprise may have come from a pirate adventure still in Early Access.
According to a new Alinea Analytics report cited by Wccftech, Windrose was reportedly the best-selling game in April 2026 across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, with an estimated 1.7 million copies sold after launching into Early Access on April 17.
That is wild because Windrose is currently only available on Steam. No PlayStation boost, no Xbox boost, no Nintendo numbers — just PC players jumping in hard enough to push it above much bigger multi-platform names.
Windrose edges out Crimson Desert
The report puts Crimson Desert in second place for April with around 1.6 million copies sold during the month. That is still a massive result, especially since the game launched in March and continued to hold strong sales momentum into April.
Behind those two, EA Sports FC 26 reportedly landed third with 1.4 million copies sold. No surprise there lah — football games always have legs, especially in SEA where FC/FIFA is basically a mamak, dorm room, and PS5 party staple.
The rest of the reported top five looks like this:
- Windrose — 1.7 million estimated copies
- Crimson Desert — 1.6 million estimated copies
- EA Sports FC 26 — 1.4 million estimated copies
- Pragmata
- Slay the Spire 2
Among April’s new releases, Pragmata was the other big title to break into the top five. The month also saw releases like Saros and Invincible Vs., but based on this report, Windrose was the one that really caught fire.
Why Malaysian and SEA players should care
For Malaysia and the wider SEA region, this is another reminder that Steam can still create huge breakout moments. A game does not always need a massive console push to dominate conversation. If the concept is strong, the clips are fun, and early players start spreading the hype, PC-first games can move fast.
That matters here because SEA has a very Steam-heavy gaming crowd. Whether it is students gaming on laptops, cybercafe regulars, or desktop players waiting for the next multiplayer obsession, a strong Early Access launch can snowball quickly. If Windrose keeps getting updates and community buzz, jangan terkejut if it becomes one of those games everyone suddenly sees on their Steam friend list.
The pirate angle also helps. Co-op adventure, exploration, loot chasing, and chaotic player stories usually perform well online. If Windrose has enough depth to keep players around beyond the first hype wave, this could be more than just a two-week sales spike.
But these numbers are still estimates
Important note: these are estimated sales figures, not official publisher-confirmed numbers. Alinea’s chart also does not include Nintendo Switch 2 sales, which may affect the placement of games like Pragmata.
That does not mean Pragmata had a weak launch. In fact, Wccftech notes that Pragmata had already reached 2 million copies sold across all platforms. So the chart is useful, but not the full picture.
Still, Windrose topping April while being Steam-only is impressive. The real test starts now: can it keep players hooked, or will it be another Early Access darling that burns bright for a few weeks before cooling off?
For now, the pirates are winning.
