PlayStation Locks June Showcase With Marvel’s Wolverine Leading The Charge

Sony is jumping properly into the Summer Game Fest season with a longer-than-usual PlayStation showcase, and yes bro, Marvel’s Wolverine is the main attraction.

The next State of Play is scheduled for June 2 at 5pm ET, which means Malaysian fans will need to set the alarm for June 3 at 5am MYT if they want to watch it live. The broadcast will stream on YouTube and Twitch, and Sony says the whole thing will run for around 60 minutes.

That is a chunky slot for PlayStation. This does not sound like a quick trailer dump — it feels more like Sony wants to reset the conversation around its upcoming PS5 lineup.

Wolverine finally gets the deep dive treatment

The headline game is Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming PS5 action-adventure title from Insomniac Games. Sony says the showcase will open with a closer look at Logan, including his brutal combat and fresh details about the game.

That matters because Insomniac has already proven it knows how to handle Marvel heroes with Spider-Man. But Wolverine is a very different beast. Fans will be looking for weightier combat, proper claws-out violence, and a version of Logan that feels savage without becoming mindless button-mashing.

Sony also confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine launches on PS5 on September 15. For Malaysian players, that means this showcase could be the moment to decide whether this is a day-one buy or wait-for-sale situation — especially with new PS5 games still landing at premium pricing locally.

What else could PlayStation show?

Sony has not revealed the full lineup, so naturally the speculation machine is already going gila.

One major question is whether we will hear anything about the reported new God of War project from Santa Monica Studio. According to previous rumours mentioned in the source report, the studio’s next game may still be connected to the God of War universe, but as a spin-off focused on Faye rather than Kratos. Christopher Judge, the voice actor behind Kratos, had also teased that news about an upcoming project would arrive in summer.

There are other PlayStation projects fans are waiting on too. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains one of Sony’s biggest mystery cards, while Guerrilla Games is reportedly working on a multiplayer Horizon spin-off called Horizon Hunters Gathering. There has also been talk of PlayStation reviving older franchises, though whether that means something like Ape Escape returning or simply better access to classic games is still unclear.

For SEA players, this part is important. PS5 owners here do not just want cinematic trailers — we need clearer release windows, regional pricing, and whether these games will actually justify the cost of staying in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Everyone will be watching for GTA 6 too

PlayStation events are not only about first-party games. Third-party reveals often take up big space, and unless Rockstar drops something earlier, many fans will be watching for a possible Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer.

The source report notes that Sony reportedly has a marketing deal with Rockstar Games, which is why people are connecting the dots. Nothing is confirmed, so don’t start booking leave from work yet. But if GTA 6 appears here, the internet will explode instantly — Malaysia included.

Sony is also offering cinema screenings at Alamo Drafthouse locations in selected cities, though that is very much a US thing. For us in Malaysia and SEA, the realistic move is simple: YouTube, Twitch, kopi, and maybe regret if the showcase starts while we’re still half asleep.

Either way, this is shaping up to be one of PlayStation’s biggest updates of the year. Wolverine is the hook, but the real win would be Sony showing enough across first-party and third-party games to make PS5 players feel confident about the next wave.
